    The Master Physical Therapist is committed to excellence in the profession of Physical Therapy, demonstrated by clinical expertise and contributions to the organization.

    The Master Physical Therapist builds on the experiences gained as a senior therapist, and promotes independent, continued professional development. This role includes being an exemplar for the organization in the broader rehabilitation field as well as a dedicated mentor and collaborator for colleagues within the organization.

    PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    In addition to performing all of the responsibilities of a Physical Therapist;

    Leads the production and dissemination of evidence-based practice at the organizational, state, or national level.

    Partners with leaders in the organization to establish practice priorities and to drive program development.

    Disseminates information and actively contributes when regulatory changes occur.

    Produces and/or performs professional presentations within the organization and/or in the profession.

    Provides professional and/or clinical mentoring related to practice and documentation, for staff and students, driven by the needs of the organization.

    Contributes to performance management evaluations of senior physical therapists.

    Leads/coordinates operations improvement activities impacting his/her work area and/or patient population.

    Actively participates in professional organizations, such as

    • Participates in state, national, or local meetings.
    • Holds an office, board membership, special interest group participant.
    • Disseminates information or knowledge at the department or organizational level.

    Collaborates with key contacts in their practice area, driving innovation both clinically and at the research level.

    Acts as an extender of practice leaders to implement changes in practice.

     

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED

    1. Graduated from an accredited program with current license to practice.
    2. Licensed to practice in the State of Illinois. Current CPT Certification required.
    3. Holds advanced certification in clinical area of expertise or advanced degree beyond entry-level clinical degree.
    4. Minimum of 3 years clinical experience required; at least 7 years clinical experience preferred.
    5. Maintains a clinical role of at least 0.4 FTE; and at least 0.5 FTE overall in the organization.
    6. Outstanding communication skills, with demonstrated ability to partner with physicians, patients and families.
    7. Proven in-depth conceptual knowledge in physical therapy.
    8. Ability to solve complex problems, demonstrating excellent critical thinking skills.
    9. Proven commitment to the profession of physical therapy.
    10. Demonstrates clinical expertise in a particular area to act as a content expert related to research and practice standards.
    11. Demonstrates leadership in activities that contribute to the advancement of the unit/department/profession.
    12. Views education as central part of role and integrates into daily routines.
    13. Peer development focuses on elevating the standard of practice as a whole.
    14. Skillfully negotiates conflict to promote collaboration.
    15. Challenges and shapes the system to maximize the benefits for patient care.
