    GENERAL SUMMARY

    The Clinical Nurse Coordinator is responsible for supporting the Nurse Manager in implementing the mission, vision, policies, goals and objectives of the organization and the provision of nursing care on the innovation center. The Clinical Nurse Coordinator supports the Nurse Manager in promoting organizational goals, interdisciplinary and interdepartmental team collaboration in conjunction with medical, allied health, and research leadership.

    The Clinical Nurse Coordinator oversees clinical operations in conjunction with the Nurse Manager on the Innovation Center. This position involves directing and clinical staff to facilitate the delivery of nursing care to patients on the Innovation Center.

    The Clinical Nurse Coordinator will consistently demonstrate support of the RIC statement of Vision, Mission and Core Values by striving for excellence, contributing to the team efforts and showing respect and compassion for patients and their families, fellow employees, and all others with whom there is contact at or in the interest of the institute.

    The Clinical Nurse Coordinator will demonstrate RIC Core Attributes: Communication, Accountability, Flexibility/Adaptability, Judgment/Problem Solving, Customer Service and RIC Values (Hope, Compassion, Discovery, Collaboration, & Commitment to Excellence) while fulfilling job duties.

    PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Oversees functions of clinical staff including RN’s, PCT’s and UAA’s.
    2. Ensures efficient use of staffing resources to meet patient needs.
    3. Participates in department activities to problem solve and manage clinical operations.
    4. Ensures practice procedures and protocols are in compliance with the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab policies.
    5. Assists Nurse Manager with designing and implementing quality improvement projects, audits, etc.
    6. Ensures that regulatory standards are met.
    7. Contributes to annual performance evaluations and development of clinical staff.
    8. Serves as an advanced clinician with specialty competence such as IV insertion, ventilator management or ventricular assistance devices, etc.
    9. Collaborates with staff and other department to ensure a safe environment of care.
    10. Manages patient flow on the Innovation Center Unit (admissions/discharges/transfers).
    11. Establishes, builds, and sustains effective professional relationships.
    12. Communicates effectively with patients, families, and staff to ensure a high level of patient satisfaction and to prevent or identify and resolve conflicts in a timely manner.
    13. Participates in and provides guidance to staff in emergency situations on the unit.
    14. Triages same day and upcoming outside appointments for appropriateness.
    15. Maintains current knowledge of clinical practices and developments and shares that knowledge and skills with staff.
    16. Pursues learning to continuously improve one’s own leadership skills; shares knowledge, and identifies own development needs.
    17. Demonstrates competency in understanding the growth and development of infant, child, adolescent, young adult, middle-aged adult and geriatric patients as measured by specific performance standards and as described by department/unit policies and procedures. Demonstrates the ability to interpret growth and development related information to ensure that patient needs are met.
    18. Practices in accordance with professional practice standards and the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses.
    19. Applies nursing research to clinical practice and participates in nursing research studies.
    20. Serves as a resource to provide nursing assessment, intervention and evaluation of patients participating in therapy and/or research in the associated Abilitylab as needed.
    21. Other duties as assigned.

    REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

    1. Reports directly to the Nurse Manager.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED

    1. BSN or specialty certification required.
    2. Current Illinois license to practice as a Registered Nurse is required.
    3. Current CPR certification is required.
    4. A minimum of 1-2 years of professional nursing experience in a hospital setting required.
    5. 1-3 years progressive growth experiences such as charge nurse, clinical instructor, preceptor, and clinical certification preferred.
    6. Possesses the specialized knowledge and clinical skills necessary to oversee the care provided for people with physical disability and chronic illness.
    7. Demonstrates a high level of initiative and creative problem-solving.
    8. Readily adapts to changing work demands and work environment.
    9. Demonstrates critical thinking skills and makes sound judgments to monitor and respond to patient and staff needs or changes in condition.
    10. Possesses the ability to work as a team leader and team member with the medical team and allied health professionals and researchers in a collegial and collaborative relationship in which each understands and accepts the contributions and limitations of the other in order to promote the patient experience, maximize patient outcomes and identify and address issues.
    11. Demonstrates a knowledge of technology in order to problems solve for staff and a working knowledge of various electronic tools including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel and organization based programs such as Concerro and ADP.  
    12. Possesses the ability to maintain a professional demeanor, evaluate situations and act/react appropriately and empathetically utilizing de-escalation techniques when dealing with visitors, patients and difficult situations.
    13. Demonstrates knowledge of safety principles and safe handling standards to establish a safe work environment.
    14. Possesses ability to communicate verbally and in writing, information/presentations to a wide variety of audiences and responds to communications in a timely and thoughtful manner.
    15. Ensures documentation standards to support clinical outcomes, meet regulatory requirements, and reimbursement guidelines.
    16. Possess ability to transfer and position patients consistent with lifting up to 35 lbs.
    17. Identifies and maintains confidential/HIPPA information.
    18. Ability to anticipate, assess and address the needs of patients and internal/external customers to positively influence the patient/customer experience (directly or indirectly).WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is frequently exposed to significant work pace/pressure. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
