    GENERAL SUMMARY

    The Lieutenant, Security will supervise security staff, conduct investigations of crimes and accidents, protect property, facilities, and citizens by law enforcement.

    The Lieutenant, Security will consistently demonstrate support of the RIC statement of Vision, Mission and Core Values by striving for excellence, contributing to the team efforts and showing respect and compassion for patients and their families, fellow employees, and all others with whom there is contact at or in the interest of the institute.

    The Lieutenant, Security will demonstrate RIC Core Attributes: Communication, Accountability, Flexibility/Adaptability, Judgment/Problem Solving, Customer Service and RIC Values (Hope, Compassion, Discovery, Collaboration, & Commitment to Excellence) while fulfilling job duties.

    PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    THE LIEUTENANT, SECURITY:

    1. Supervises the day-shift Public Safety Offers.
    2. Oversees all operating shift schedules and personnel work assignments.
    3. Provides department schedule and work assignments.
    4. Monitors the work performance of assigned staff, assists with providing input for performance reviews.
    5. Patrols and supervises others patrolling by foot or motor vehicle: the campus, and off-sites.
    6. Investigates or supervises others investigating suspected crimes, reporting findings, and arresting suspected individuals.
    7. Investigates accidents involving persons or property, reports probable cause of accidents and pursues appropriate course of action.
    8. Supervises the maintenance and use of security equipment
    9. Monitors parking operations.
    10. Performs related and occasionally other duties as assigned: may direct and control traffic; may issue parking citations in the parking garage
    11. Conducts training as needed for staff and hospital employees
    12. Participates on the Emergency Response Team
    13. Assist in the management of the Environment of Care.
    14. Performs all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of RIC.

    REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

    1. Reports directly to the Director, Security
    2. Supervises day-time Security staff

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED

    1. Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations and to determine proper course of action
    2. Knowledge of City, and State laws as it relates to Public Safety
    3. Ability to understand and follow oral written instruction
    4. Knowledge of geographic area of the campus
    5. Ability to ascertain facts by personal contact, observations, and the examination of records
    6. Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with students, the public, and other employees
    7. Ability to enforce laws firmly, tactfully with respect for the rights of others
    8. Ability to supervise the work of others
    9. Ability to operate law enforcement equipment required in the performance of required duties
    10. Knowledge of effective methods of investigation
    11. Ability to clearly and concisely express ideas, orally and written
    12. Working knowledge of a variety of Security Systems related to IT Systems

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    1. Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
    2. Able to stand and work for long periods of time.

  • Qualifications

    EDUCATION:

    • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree with a technical focus, and a minimum GPA of 3.0.
    • Junior or Senior Level status as of September 2020.

     

    EXPERIENCE:   

    • Previous co-op or internship experience preferred.
    • Experience writing queries.
    • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office Suite.
    • Familiarity with SharePoint.

     

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
    • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
    • Use of pivot tables (preferred).
    • Strong motivation to drive results.
    • Ability to establish and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
    • Permanent work authorization in the U.S.
