    Customer Service Representative - Laboratory Texas Health Resources 417 reviews - Dallas, TX 75231 Qualifications/Duties: Texas Health Physicians Group (THPG) is seeking a Laboratory Customer Service Representative for their North Point Laboratory. North Point is located at 9229 LBJ Freeway, Dallas, TX 75243. Position Summary: The Customer Service Representative is responsible for accurately and efficiently providing all customers with excellent customer service using in-depth knowledge of laboratory processes. Hours: Monday - Friday; 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM Required Minimum Education: * High School Diploma or Equivalent Required Minimum Experience: * 1 Year Customer service experience required * 1 Year Experience in a high volume testing laboratory and data entry experience preferred Required Skills: * Familiar with diagnosis codes, CPT codes, managed healthcare insurance practices * Familiar with basic medical and laboratory terminology * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills * Knowledge of appropriate lab and regulatory guidelines including, but not limited to: CLIA, CAP, CLSI (NCCLS), Texas Department of Health, EPA regulations regarding regulated waste disposal Job Responsibilities:Principle Responsibilities: * Answers the main lab line and provides customer service assistance to the caller. * Researches problem bin from the night before and provides necessary corrective action and documentation. * Uses the Abbott Track or Instrument Management (IM) to pull samples for add-on testing and ensures proper paperwork is received from ordering physician to document the add-on request. * Ensures that all specimens to be sent to reference labs have the proper test(s) ordered, the correct accession number, the correct tube type and number of types required to perform the requested tests. * Works cautiously with extensive attention to detail and avoids repetitive errors. * Cleans individual work area at the end of the evening and documents on the cleaning log * Print add on report daily to verify all add ons have been done. * Restocks work area at the end of the shift. * Notifies technical supervisor when running low on inventory/supplies before it runs out. * Disposes of biohazard waste in a manner that is consistent with the North Point Laboratory Biohazard Trash disposal policy. * Clean and scan requisitions into soft media. * Pulls the sample rejection log in the morning and investigates samples that were rejected, resolving the rejection in house if possible and notifying clinic of cancellation if it can not be resolved. * Pulls TIQ from Quest and investigates tests that are in question. Provides resolution to pending TIQs and notifies clinics of any cancellations or changes to the order. * Investigates/resolves billing issues that are associated with the reference labs. * Pulls the Problem Log from Labcorp and investigates the issues. Provides resolution to pending problems and notify clinics of any cancellation or changes to the order. * Responsible for sending tests to Quest /Labcorp on behalf of POL when necessary. * Follows laboratory processing procedures at all times * Ensures proper Data Entry and Accessioning for all specimens received from the clinics. * Develops knowledge of Quest Quanum, Labcorp Beacon and Soft Express . * Helps to scan additional samples into Instrument Management (IM) when necessary. * Completes all assigned tasks by the completion date requested by laboratory management. * Notifies the lab manager/supervisor of any problems or issues that require attention. * Prepare lab supplies to be sent out to clinic via courier. * Reconciles Potential Misses report daily to ensure all samples from the previous night were sent to the reference labs. Specimen Processing: * Receives specimens from outside clinics as the courier drops them off. * Ensures correct data entry as each specimen is received into the LIS. * Checks for proper name, collection date, and correct samples. * Prepares all send out specimens for pick-up to reference labs and ensures proper handling of specimens according to in-house or reference laboratory protocols * Sorts all in-house labs to various departments, placing specimens in appropriate racks: chemistry, hematology, GC/Chlamydia, Microbiology, serology, urinalysis, cytology, histology. * Places all samples with questions in the Problem Bin and document on the problem bin log that is posted on the labshare folder on the shared drive for the day processor/CSR to troubleshoot the next day. * Documents all samples that do not meet quality criteria on the sample rejection log that is posted on the labshare folder on the shared drive. * Ensures proper communication flow (regular meetings, etc.) within their unit(s) as well as outside their unit(s) when necessary. * Follows laboratory processing procedures at all times * Ensures proper Data Entry and Accessioning for all specimens received from the clinics * Rotates responsibility of processing of frozen samples and 24 hour urines. * Completes all assigned tasks by the completion date requested by laboratory management. Quality Requirements: * Participates in the annual competency assessment challenges and receives a satisfactory mark for passing the challenge. * Maintains the integrity of patient confidentiality that is consistent with the HIPAA policy of North Point Laboratory. * Works in a manner that is consistent with the North Point Laboratory Quality Management system. * Minimizes data entry errors and corrects reports that are the result of inaccurate data entry or labeling. Safety Standards: * Adheres, at all times, to Universal Precautions guidelines when working in the laboratory. * Abides by the guidelines of the Chemical Hygiene Plan when working with chemicals in the laboratory. * Adheres to all safety standards and SOPs. * Becomes and stays familiar with the Hazard Communication regulations. * Follows all OSHA safety guidelines when working in a testing environment. * Follows North Point Laboratory ergonomic policy to minimize the potential for MSDS.
