  • Responsibilities

    JOB SUMMARY: • Maintain internal and external security for the hospital, employees, patients and visitors. • Provide assistance to any department or any visitor that may need additional help with a patient or problem. • Follow daily work assignments and exercise good judgement in maintaining security for the hospital. • Proficient in use of word processor and have basic computer literacy. • Requires some degree of knowledge pertaining to law enforcement or security procedures and/or laws. • Limited protected health information access.

    JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES: • Demonstrate knowledge in various uses of digital surveillance system and related computer software. • Monitor and operate cameras, perform search for archived footage when necessary. • Prepare detailed reports of shift activities, incidents, inspection results, variances, and safety related incidents. • Enforce parking policies effectively, provide highly visible Security presence. • Control access throughout the facilities, knowledgeable of routine lockdown procedures, programming of digital access badges, proficient in the use of access control computer system. • Issue visitor passes. • Operate the ‘Lost & Found’ service. • Operate the shuttle service vehicle on evening shifts and during inclement weather. • Assist all hospital departments with unruly patients or visitors. Use non-violent crisis intervention techniques to mediate disputes to prevent escalation. • Provide physical assistance to help restrain any individual who is a potential threat to employees, patients or visitors. • Conduct routine safety inspections of all hospital facilities, including Environment of Care staff knowledge assessments and Interim Life Safety Permit checks. • Serve on the Haz-Mat decontamination team, knowledgeable of decontamination techniques and use of equipment. An integral member of the hospital disaster management response team during emergencies. • Conduct routine patrols of hospital properties. • Conduct routine inspections of fire extinguishers and other safety related devices. • Interacts cohesively with police and fire departments, detention centers, DES and other law enforcement officials. • Activates severe weather and snow emergency plans on evening and weekend shifts; perform snow and ice removal duties as needed. • Maintain parking lot signage and safety features; install barricades and perform traffic control for construction projects. • Maintain and enforce parking policies and procedures. • Performs any other duties as assigned that are within the scope of training.

    Required Skills

    LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Maintains valid driver’s license

    EDUCATION: Must be able to read, write, communicate and interpret simple and complex instructions. Graduate of a Professional Security Officer’s program or Law Enforcement Academy preferred.

    EXPERIENCE: Three years’ experience in a security related field; hospital security experience preferred. Law Enforcement knowledge preferred.
