    MISSION / SUMMARY:

     

    This position provides leadership to shipping shift teams and is an integral part of the plant management team.  The individual drives shift performance to achieve results consistent with company direction and goals.   This person will work to develop the team members to their full potential.  They are responsible for safety, housekeeping, product quality, production efficiency, and equipment condition for the department. The Superintendent also has the responsibility, authority and accountability for job assignments, work priorities, and overtime requirements.

     

    JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following.

     

    • Lead the day-to-day activities of 3 work groups from 2 Unions.  Trucking, load plan and loading, and roll handling from machine to warehouse including 24-7 coverage.
    • Responsible for performance coaching and/or/counseling of department employees for performance relating to safety, quality, productivity and/or inappropriate behaviors to include disciplinary action if required to resolve performance issue.
    • Key Mill contact for Corporate SPI initiatives within scope of Logistics, warehousing etc
    • Provide internal, strategic solutions for Mill logistic issues and cost savings
    • Accountable for overall department performance in areas of Safety, Mill Warehousing, Customer Shipments, Inventory control, Production scheduling, Labor hours, quality & culture.  Takes necessary actions to ensure goals are achieved.  
    • Expedite tactical solutions for Senior Mill leadership requests - within scope of responsibility
    • Responsible for performance coaching and/or/counseling of Union department employees for performance relating to safety, quality, productivity and/or inappropriate behaviors to include disciplinary action if required to resolve performance issue.
    • Lead, coach and improve department meetings and communications. Attends and participates in meetings
    • Provides daily communications to the shift teams i.e. announcements.  
    • Ensures product quality, production efficiencies and overall productivity meets or exceeds established standards. 
    • Salaried performance reviews and expectations Manages job assignments, training plans
    • Provides leadership and direction to shift leaders and other hourly employees to continuously improve safety, quality, reduce waste and increase throughput.
    • Deliver successful synergies and cooperation with all Mill processes, peers and vendors
    • Other duties as assigned.
    • Ensures that safety/housekeeping norms, procedures and acceptable work practices are being followed throughout the shifts.
    • Attends and participates in department meetings as scheduled
    • Provides daily communications to the shift teams i.e. announcements.
    • Manages job assignments and training plans.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:

     

    • 5-7 years leadership/supervisory experience
    • Previous warehouse and/or logistics experience
    • MS Office

     

    EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

     

    • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of related training and experience

    SCHEDULE DEMANDS:

    • GENERAL SCHEDULE IS A M-F ASSIGNMENT, HOWEVER, EMPLOYEE MUST BE WILLING TO WORK ALTERNATE SCHEDULES OCCASIONALLY; THAT MAY INCLUDE EARLY MORNINGS, NIGHTS, AND/OR WEEKENDS AND BE PUNCTUAL WHILE DOING SO. THE POSITION WILL REQUIRE WEEKEND COVERAGE ON A ROTATIONAL BASIS.
    • Occasional overnight travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail.

     

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

     

    • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time up to 8-hours.
    • Occasional Lifting up to 20 lbs.
    • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
    • Use of various office hand and electrical tools or equipment.

    • Ability to drive a 5-speed manual transmission a plus
