    MISSION / SUMMARY:

    This position provides leadership to production teams and is an integral part of plant management driving performance to achieve results consistent with company direction and goals.   This key position has oversight of production improvements and supports operational efficiency and safe operations.

     

    JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following:

    • Accountable for maintaining production tons.

    • Establish and direct production operations in a safe and orderly manner providing quality products according to job schedules and customer specifications.

    • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations; adhere to permit requirements.

    • Lead efforts in pursuit of cost savings initiatives through operational improvements.

    • Develop, plan, and administer material and labor usage.

    • Work closely with Maintenance Superintendent and Maintenance Supervisors to ensure efficient execution of troubleshooting, planning and maintenance repair activities are carried out.

    • Key participant for annual outage planning.  Ensure the annual outage is completed on time and in accordance to budget.

    • Establish and provide the operational expertise component of leading and managing our cultural change process, the strategic and forward thinking capabilities in both the operational and human capital areas of the operation.

    • Develop improved methods for new capital investments, cost reduction and equipment refurbishment.

    • Administer and implement Labor relations (CBA) through consultation with the Human Resource and Mill Managers.

    • In collaboration with the Production Manager, develop annual budgetary proposals standards for cost measurement.

    • Determine training needs and administer appropriate training programs for salaried and hourly employees on Paper Machines in order to function in the most reliable manner.

    • Actively participates by collaborating with the Production Manager in the strategic and capital planning processes for the department.

    • Demonstrate strategic planning/thinking by developing a 5 year plan that supports the Mill, Division and Company vision.

    Required Skills

    BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE:

    • A minimum of 3 years leadership/supervisory experience in the paper industry

    • Minimum of seven (7) years previous production experience on paper machines (cylinder board exp. preferred)

    • Demonstrated involvement in the implementation of safety initiatives

     

    EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE:

    • BS in Paper Science or Chemical engineering preferred but other engineering degree will be considered

    SPECIFIC SKILLS:

    • Dynamic, flexible team player with demonstrated ability to lead, motivate and develop others.
    • Good Interpersonal skills and ability to influence people
    • Proficient with Word, Excel, and other software applications as required for the business.
      • Strong organizational skills.

        • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to influence people.
        • Good organization/project management skills.
        • Excellent written and oral communications skills
        • Proficient with Microsoft Office and other software applications as required for the business.

         

        SCHEDULE DEMANDS:

        • General schedule is 7 am - 5 pm - Monday - Friday during normal business hours. Employee must be willing to work alternate schedules that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so.
        • Occasional overnight travel to include flying, driving, riding or by rail.

         

        PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

        • Sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
        • Awkward movements while working on equipment.
        • Lifting up to 20 lbs.
        • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
