Job Description

Under general supervision, performs a variety of Vascular and Neuro- Interventional procedures to obtain optimum quality Radiography in Vascular Angiography and Neuroradiology with the least amount of discomfort and radiation to the patient.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Determines correct exposure factors and safe Radiation practices.
• Operates all radiographic fluoroscopic and medical equipment in designated areas including rapid film changers, portable image intensifier and automatic contrast injector.
• Positions all patients for exams, sets up sterile tray, preps patient and monitors contrast media when necessary.
• Assists radiologist with catheter placement, keeps compression on artery of patient after exam and puts on pressure dressings.
• Schedules exams, coordinates with department and hospital personnel, patient information and exam.
• Completes patient records on all cases and records billing information,including supplies when necessary.
• Greets patients, explains examination to be performed, checks if patient has allergies and takes blood pressure if needed.
• Responsible for overall condition of room to which assigned such as cleanliness, supplies, performance and safety of equipment.
• Performs duty stocking of supplies and inventory as required.
• As necessary assists in the development of new techniques and procedures including research and assists in the training and orientation of fellows, residents, technologists and students.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Minimum of 2 years in an Interventional lab with Neuro and Vascular experience registration in Radiology by American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. RTR and CV
• One to two years experience as a staff technologist.
• Ability to acquire and effectively utilize knowledge of a wide variety of special radiographic procedures and equipment.
• Ability to communicate with patients and all personnel involved in patient exam and operation of department in order to effectively coordinate and expedite a successful examination.
• Must have sound knowledge of medical equipment used routinely and in emergency situations. Arterial Pressure Monitor, Cardiac Monitor Suction, Automatic Injector, O2 Equipment, Code 99 Equipment.
• Ability to work under stressful and high pressure situations. Majority of angiographic patients are high risk and/or emergency patients.
• Frequent lifting of patients and pulling and pushing of light to heavy equipment.
• CPR review.
• Performs intravenous starts within the scope of practice.
• Cross training into the Diagnostic Section of Radiology.
• Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned service area.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• The hazards of radiation, on-going and accumulative, especially in fluoroscopy.
• Regular exposure to blood, fecal waste and other body waste with possible risk of infection.
• Working in fluoroscopy, necessity of wearing a lead apron during the exam.
• Stands and walks most of the day.
• Constant contact with patients and physicians.
