    Job Description

    Under the direction of the laboratory leadership, the Manager of Education and Training is responsible for providing direction and actively drive and participate in the selection, implementation and documentation of appropriate education and training programs for the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine across all lab testing and processing locations within Tufts Medicine. 

    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Creates and maintains a system-wide education and training (E&T) program including but not limited to information systems, departmental activities, annual regulatory requirements and continuing education (CE).
    • Provides guidance, direction and support to the Medical Directors and laboratory leaders related to E&T. 
    • Provides for on-going training for all relevant personnel including but not limited to staff, students and customers.
    • Develop and maintain effective procedures, training system environments and tools based on operational workflows and industry standards.
    • Structures training sessions and schedules as needed offering both in-person and remote modes as appropriate across all sites.
    • Establish and maintain documentation system for training records.
    • Solicit feedback and appropriately adapt training and programs.
    • Assist departmental training efforts with a focus on standardization where applicable including documentation, methods and tools.
    • Drives the development of system level policies and procedures.
    • Communicates effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Maintain knowledge and relevant documentation to meet all applicable regulatory standards.
    • May perform other job-related duties as requested or required.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    JOB KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

    • Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to interface effectively with both department and clinical staff.
    • Must have the ability to work without direct supervision; make independent judgments and multi-task. 
    • Demonstrates working knowledge of the operations of the laboratory.
    • Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to coordinate and prioritize tasks and project components.
    • Ability to maintain confidential medical information.

    EDUCATION:

    • Bachelors Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or equivalent with intermediate knowledge of laboratory medicine preferred, but not required.  Certification by a laboratory-accrediting agency such as ASCP or NCA preferred but not required.
    • Certified Epic Beaker Credentialed Trainer preferred.

    EXPERIENCE:

    • Five to seven years experience in a hospital laboratory setting.
