    Job Description

    GENERAL SUMMARY:

    • This position participates in research activities in the Division of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery in Tufts Medical Center. The Division produces clinical research related to Trauma, Acute Care Surgery and Surgical Critical Care. The responsibilities will involve all areas related to the initiation, development, and timely completion of the clinical research projects according to federal, state and institutional guidelines and regulations.

    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Assists with performing electronic literature searches for relevant research articles using Medline and other electronic bibliographic retrieval services, under the direction of Dr. Bugaev or his designee.
    • Prints out abstracts of relevant articles and copy for distribution to investigators
    • Retrieves and copy full articles at the Tufts University Medical Library or through the Internet for use by investigators.
    • When articles are not available, work with library staff to utilize inter-library loan and other techniques to obtain access to articles.
    • Work closely with the Institutional Review Board of the Tufts Medical Center, to maintain an accurate documentation related to all stages and types of research activities.
    • Recruit patients to new research studies.
    • Assists in various aspects of clinical research studies

    Qualifications

     JOB KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

    • Understanding of medical terminology.
    • Prior experience, knowledge, and comfort with utilizing large library for information retrieval.
    • Knowledge of how to find information, articles, books, and the like.
    • Ability to conduct library, electronic and Internet searches required.
    • Strong skills and understanding of Microsoft Office (WORD, EXCEL, POWERPOINT) required.
    • Familiarity and experience using Medline is a plus. Medline search training will be provided.
    • Strong writing and oral communication skills
    • Able to work independently with minimum supervision.

    Additional Information

     EDUCATION:

    Minimum of B.A. or B.S. degree or equivalent work experience

     EXPERIENCE:

    Relevant work experience in healthcare or biomedical research setting desired.

    An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.
