    Job Description

    Under general supervision, this position transports patients to and from the Inpatient units and Emergency Room to the Radiology Departments and other radiology sections.  Assists technologists with patients and equipment.

    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Transports patients to and from various areas of the Hospital by wheelchair, stretcher, go-cart ensuring proper identification of patient by checking name and wristband and tells patient where he/she is going, ensuring patient safety and comfort en route.
    • Assists technologists by lifting patients and observing patients in the hold area, reporting their needs to the technologists.
    • Assists in maintaining order and cleanliness of the area.
    • Answers phone and greet patients as required.
    • Inventories and stocks supplies from departmental storeroom.
    • Acting as back up for MRI, CT, during  vacations, illness, and volume peaks..
    • Performs related clerical duties such as answering telephones,.
    • Maintains equipment in clean and proper working order and replenish machine supplies as necessary.  Performs minor equipment adjustments such as changing lead wires and notifies             supervisor of a serious malfunction.
    • Occasional escorts patients to other test rooms.
    • Calibrates and operates EKG machines according to established procedures to record electromotive variations in heart muscle action as schedule.
    • Maintains collaborative, team relationships with peers and colleagues in order to effectively contribute to the working groups achievement of goals, and to help foster a positive work environment
    • Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.

    JOB KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

    • Ability to read, write and communicate generally obtained through high school education.
    • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned service area.
    • Must have interpersonal skills necessary to relieve apprehensions and explain procedures to patients.
    • Must demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to assess the needs of patients of different age populations in order to provide care appropriately.

    EDUCATION:

    • Ability to read, write, and have basic knowledge of physical sciences at a level generally acquired through a high school education

    EXPERIENCE:

    • An equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above, may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.

    AGE SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:

    • Possesses and applies the skills and knowledge necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process. This includes:

      • Knowledge of growth and development
      • Ability to interpret age specific data and response to care
      • Provide age specific communication

    WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    • Contact with bodily fluids with risk of infection.
    • Frequent contact with patients, physicians and nurses.
    • Work requires regular walking, standing, pushing of equipment and lifting and positioning of patients.
