    Job Description

    GENERAL SUMMARY:

    The Associate Chief Nursing Officer, Clinical Operations and Project Management position has overall responsibility for working closely with the Chief Nursing Officer and members of the Nurse Executive Council to lead nursing, including the planning, development, coordination, implementation and evaluation of nursing care delivery, professional development, and evidence-based practices and nursing research for clinical programs/divisions.

    Reports to the Chief Nursing Officer and Sr. VP of Patient Care Services and acts on behalf of the CNO, Senior Vice President in her/his absence as assigned. Works within the strategic vision of the CNO and works to ensure the effective coordination of human, fiscal and material resources across all aspects of the service line(s).

    The ACNO, Clinical Operations and Project Management is accountable for developing, leading, and executing large scale operational projects as well as supporting day to day organizational performance throughout the Medical Center as assigned by the Chief Nursing Officer.  The position participates with the Chief Nursing Officer and Senior Vice President in strategic planning, goal setting, program development and establishment of outcomes and methods of measurement.  

    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    ·       Serves as the nursing leader within outlined key areas of responsibility and acts on behalf of the CNO when indicated.

     

    ·       Collaborates with administrative and clinical colleagues in strategic planning and the development and evaluation of business plans, clinical programs, and services.

     

    ·       Serves as the executive leader in large scale operational projects including but not limited to:

    -          EPIC training plan and execution

    -          Laudio implementation optimization

    -          Recruitment and retention efforts

    -          Patient safety event action planning

     

     

    ·       Is accountable in leading and managing capital projects for Patient Care Services including:

    -          Formulation of annual capital requests across all areas of PCS,  

    -          Alignment of capital purchases across Wellforce entities,

    -          Collaboration with supply chain to determine clinical and financial impact

    -          Collaboration with clinicians to develop and implement staff education & training

    -          Facilitation the urgent and emergent funding and purchase capital equipment

     

    ·       Provides clinical oversight of capital construction projects. Serves as clinical point of contact to oversee planning, design, and execution of all construction projects within the clinical areas of the organization. Represents key stakeholders and end users in all phases of construction. Ensures that design and construction decisions meet the needs of clinicians, patients, and families

    ·       Provides project leadership in care progression, including the oversight and facilitation of care progression enhancement projects and other ventures that enhance patient capacity, e.g., surgical short stay, etc.

     

    ·       Responsible for specific clinical program development and operational optimization projects, as defined by the CNO.

    ·       Collaborates with peers across organization to identify appropriate non-clinical supports for the delivery of safe, effective patient/family care and to ensure that clinicians have available to them the necessary supports to carry out their clinical responsibilities.

     

    ·       Assesses environmental needs, including the need for equipment and supplies that support the delivery of safe, effective patient and family care.  Works with appropriate colleagues to ensure availability, accessibility, and effectiveness of such resources.

     

    ·       Prepares and recommends project-based budgets, based on identified goals and statistical data, designed to support the clinical objectives of the Patient Care Services Department.  Works with the Director of Nursing Finance Operations to develop a system for evaluation and control.

     

    ·       Works to ensure effective and efficient use of all resources.  Works with the Director of PCS Finance to help create, implement, and monitor the approved budget for areas assigned. Is accountable for monitoring the budget and controlling variances

     

    ·       May perform other job-related duties as required or requested.

    Demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities in management and leadership required for success in an academic medical center. Models leadership behavior that is expected of senior leaders at Tufts MC and holds others accountable to those standards.

    Strengths in ability to work collaboratively with nurses, physicians and administrative colleagues.

    Excellent communication skills.

    Strong commitment to evidence based nursing practice, the nursing profession and to involvement in professional activities.

    AGE SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

    Has the knowledge and skills necessary to determine appropriate staffing and program development based upon the needs of patient across the life span.

    EDUCATION

    Masters Degree in Nursing or PhD in health related field. .

    Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts

    EXPERIENCE

    Progressive leadership experience at the managerial and director level. Minimum of 5 years of nurse leadership experience with demonstrated outcomes required.
