    Job Description

    The Employee Relations Representative assists with all Employee and Labor Relations functions as well as providing support to the Leave of Absence Administrator.  The Employee Relations Representative is responsible for providing assistance and support with all Employee Relations issues, maintaining Employee Relations documentation processes and analyzing a variety of employee and labor relations information.  

    PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    The Employee Relations Representative assists with all employee relations issues and provides support for the Employee Relations Director, the Employee Relations Specialists and the Leave of Absence Administrator. The Employee Relations Representative is responsible for oversight of all unemployment claims and along with the Employee Relations Specialists and will represent Tufts Medical Center at Department of Unemployment hearings. The Employee Relations Representative provides Tufts Medical Center employees with information on policies and procedures, the appeal process, and the corrective action process. The Employee Relations Representative is also responsible for planning and coordinating employee appreciation activities and service center offerings.

    • Assists in coordinating employee record keeping activities. Performs employee file duties as necessary:
    • Coordinates provision of subpoenaed records and responses to unemployment claims.
    • Obtains files or particular file contents as requested by other Human Resources personnel.
    • Assists with regulatory audits and surveys.
    • Provides courteous, responsive service to all levels of employees and Medical Staff.
    • Answers Policy and Procedure questions or directs inquiries to the appropriate person and/or business area.
    • Assist in resolving employee relations issues by partnering with employees, administering policies, and recommending effective solutions for addressing workplace issues
    • Track employee claims and investigations using Case Management System
    • Triages calls received on the Employee Relations line and directs them as appropriate.
    • Maintains collaborative team relationships with peers and colleagues in order to effectively contribute to the working group's achievement of goals, and to help foster a positive work environment.
    • Performs other similar job related duties as required or directed.

    SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND/OR ABILITIES

    • Knowledge of federal and state employment laws/regulations
    • Skill in developing strong interpersonal and communication skills with staff and management
    • Strong customer service skills
    • Ability to distill issues, analyze situations, apply sound judgment, and make reasonable and necessary decisions.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, to a variety of audiences
    • Skill in applying employment policies and statutes to operational circumstances
    • Skill in preparing and presenting training programs and materials related to human resources
    • Ability to successfully mediate issues between staff and management.

    • Ability to use computer-based information systems to enter, change and obtain information.
    • Familiarity with business office procedures.
    • Strong analytical skills and experience

    EDUCATION:

    • Baccalaureate Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, Legal, or related degree; or experience in lieu of.

    EXPERIENCE:

    • One to two years related Human Resources experience.
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above, may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.

    WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    • Normal office work environment.
