Who We Are: Located in Boulder, Colorado, the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) serves and participates in a collaborative community of researchers and educators who are dedicated to understanding the atmosphere - the air around us - and the complex processes that make up the Earth system, from the ocean floor to the Suns core. We manage the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) on behalf of the National Science Foundation and the university community. What You Will Do: UCAR is hiring for an intermediate-level position possessing all basic and some advanced skills and knowledge related to extensive data entry support of the HR Benefits Department. This position will provide ongoing monitoring and maintaining of various tasks and processes. Duties range from routine administrative office tasks to tasks requiring the exercise of independent judgment within guidelines, practices, procedures and supervision. May work on assignments that are moderately complex where judgment and intermediate problem-solving skills are required in resolving problems and making recommendations to HR Benefits staff. Responsibilities: * Provide assistance in Benefits and HRIS Administration. * Responsible for all data entry into UCARs HRIS system requiring careful attention to detail. Meets bi-weekly data entry deadlines. Records all data relative to new employees and their benefits as well as status changes for current and terminating employees. Using SQL and Excel, generates established reports and other output from databases on a biweekly and on an as needed basis. * Communicates with HR staff, Payroll and organization administrators to resolve record discrepancies. Uses established reports to generate weekly, bi-weekly and monthly reports. * Uses UCARs electronic onboarding system to schedule and monitor completion of online forms for new hires. * Monitors, maintains and updates various sets of data within a variety of databases including: upcoming appointment term dates, maintaining changes to online health insurance vendor and retirement plan systems; transmits Colorado State Directory, backup child/adult care, health care/dependent care and employee assistance files, etc. * Monitors employee terminations to ensure UCAR remains compliant with COBRA requirements and notifies external COBRA administrator of terminated employees. * Understands and communicates benefit policies for UCAR/NCAR/UCP staff and answers routine questions on all benefit programs and policies. Resolves routine problems with benefits vendors and employees. Provides input for planning and updating of annual benefits enrollment process and communication pieces, as assigned. * Provides courteous and professional written and oral response to routine employee inquiries primarily via email and telephone. * Regularly files employee paperwork in employee files, including HIPAA files, Education Assistance files, Visitor files, Leave of Absence and Long-Term Disability files. Organizes and sends files to archives as required by UCARs records retention policy, as assigned. * Assists with creating and maintaining employee files and various filing and organizing projects. What You Need: Education and Years of Experience: * High School diploma or equivalent; and two years of experience in a human resources support function, preferably in employee benefits; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: * Ability to perform complete and accurate data entry paying close and consistent attention to detail * Knowledge of word processing, database, and spreadsheet software in a networked computing environment. * Demonstrated skill in working in the Microsoft Windows environment. * Ability to accurately perform routine and repetitive tasks. * Skill in data compilation and simple statistics. * Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to compose and edit correspondence. * Excellent interpersonal skills and team work including ability to work with diverse groups, demonstrated ability to work as a team player and ability to work independently to accomplish department goals. * Ability to independently prioritize work on a variety of projects and to meet deadlines. * Good problem solving skills. * Ability to maintain confidentiality with discretion, especially as it relates to UCARs Privacy Policy and federal government regulations. * Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks in a busy, interruption-prone working environment. * Ability to commit to and meet deadlines. Desired Skills * High-volume data entry experience. * Experience working with Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) or similar systems and software. * Has a working knowledge of relevant UCAR processes and policies. * Experience in a payroll environment.
