The Vice President, UHG External Affairs represents multiple priorities across the Enterprise. The role leverages government and policy expertise, military and veterans’ health care expertise, thought leadership, business acumen and interpersonal skills to establish key stakeholder relationships, identify and advance business opportunities, and keep business segment leadership informed of key public policy activities and developments within Congress, the Administration and key agencies.   Primary Responsibilities: Develop, implement and lead a strategic approach to position the company as a diversified health care provider, partner, and advocate supporting UHG growth priorities Drive visibility across the Enterprise and externally for UHG’s broad commitment to military and veterans Design, coordinate and execute a strategy to showcase UHG’s thought leadership on health care issues Draft, disseminate, summarize and analyze public policy positions on key military and veterans business priorities to ensure coordination and alignment with the Business Serve as the primary liaison between business UHG, UHC and Optum leaders and External Affairs for Enterprise military and veterans health care priorities Coordinate and facilitate business leader engagement in external positioning with key stakeholders as needed Develop and coordinate third party outreach efforts with beneficiary associations, charitable organizations, and United Health Foundation grant partners Working across External Affairs and the Business, define and implement strategic engagement opportunities to advance relationships, communications, health program coordination and performance Serve as the liaison with United Health Foundation to identify, support and guide military and veterans’ philanthropic initiatives designed to demonstrate Enterprise commitment to service members, veterans and their families Timely and effective communication to External Affairs leaders and others across External Affairs on key issues, priorities and opportunities Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Public or Health Policy, or related field 8 or more years of experience working in health care with a primary concentration in military or veterans’ health policy   Careers at UnitedHealth Group.
