    Job Description

    TELE-MED REMOTE MONITOR SITTERS PART TIME - ROTATE  UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND MEDICAL SYSTEM

    GENERAL SUMMARY Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager or designee, performs delegated competency validated patient observation functions and applies technical skills of a limited uncomplicated nature.

    Remotely provides continuous observation and surveillance of assigned patients using audio/visual technology. Verbally redirects the patient from engaging in risk behaviors. Following department procedures and escalation process, summons unit staff if the patient requires assistance 

    PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification.  They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.

    • Maintains visual observation at all times. Verbally redirects patient over digital 2-way audio device that is in patient room. Immediately summons the nursing staff if the patient requires.
    • Participates in hand-off of pertinent information/behavior about assigned patients when arriving on unit and upon completion of shift assignment. Arranges meal break times to ensure constant patient observation.
    • Seeks help or advice as soon as possible when patient appears to pose a threat to themselves or others. Participates in a collaborative identification and reporting of patient safety issues. Assures patient environment safety. Seeks assistance with removal of any potential safety hazard from room and reports findings to Charge Nurse.
    • Maintains all required documentation as identified on initiation, during observation, and discontinuation of continuous video monitoring.
    • Demonstrates sound knowledge base and actions in the care of reporting observations for age specific patient populations to the RN.
    • Formulates and maintains effective working relationships with all healthcare team members, patients, and significant others.
    • Establishes and maintains courteous and effective relationships with patients, visitors, co-workers, and other members of the health care team; demonstrates sensitivity and awareness to the needs of patients, visitors and co-workers and responds promptly to verbal and/or written instructions.
    • Maintains a safe and orderly work environment, thorough cleaning and straightening of area, following specific departmental procedures/instructions, daily.
    • Maintains equipment and supplies in accordance with departmental procedures, to assure availability of resources to staff and patients. Cleans and disinfects items and equipment according to UMMC and department policies. Notifies supervisor immediately of malfunctioning equipment and follows departmental policies related to handling of malfunctioning equipment.
    • Performs related and delegated tasks when necessary such as will be assigned to direct patient care as designated, setting up or discharging special equipment, answering the phone and taking and relaying messages, procuring equipment, and running errands
    • Initiates C.P.R. procedure as needed for patient care and safety.

    • Attends all mandatory hospital in-services in accordance with any HR and other hospital policies.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

    • High School diploma or equivalent (GED). Certified Nursing Assistant/Medical Assistant required.
    • Current CPR certification through the American Heart Association required.
    • Basic computer operations skills required. 
    • Six months of prior direct, patient care work experience in a health care facility is preferred.
