    Job Description

    As a Full Time Physical Therapy Resident you will complete a full continuum of care program in orthopedic residency in acute inpatient at Shock Trauma and outpatient within UMMC clinic. Additionally you will spend time at St Joseph Medical Center and Towson Sports Medicine.

    • Deliver physical therapy services through evaluation of patient needs, goal determination, and development of treatment plans according to the principles and practices of physical therapy.
    • The resident will complete all requirements/objectives of the Residency program in accordance of the policies and standards of the Residency site and the American Board of Physical Therapy Residency and Fellowship Education (ABPTRFE).

    ** Education and Experience**

    • Bachelor's Degree, Master’s Degree, or Doctorate of PT, required.
    • Current licensure as a Physical Therapist with the State of Maryland is required.
    • Current CPR certification is required.

    ** Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**

    • Demonstrated ability to promote professionalism through involvement in professional organizations, teaching, research, publishing, and/or certification in area of specialty.
    • Knowledge of physical therapy techniques and practices; and general knowledge of orthopedics, neurology, trauma, pathology, and general medicine is required.
    • Knowledge of equipment such as wheelchairs, transfer devices, lift equipment, modalities, and other therapeutic equipment is required.
    • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills are required in order to work with patients and other health care personnel effectively.
    • Functions with an awareness and application of standard operating procedures including Compliance, General Safety, HIPAA.
    • Demonstrates applied knowledge base including integration of skills as required through block rotation experiences.
    • Demonstrates ability for effective problem identification and resolution as well as the exercise of independent judgment.
    • Ability to read, write and speak English in order to follow and give instructions accurately.
    • Ability to learn and practice positive customer relations skills.
    • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the level of care and the patient populations(s) served. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and ability to assess data reflective of the patient's requirements relative to his or her population-specific and age specific needs across the continuum of care.
    • Must possess the ability to work collaboratively with other disciplines.
