    Job Description

    General Summary

    Under limited supervision, acts as a team member to ensure that the Picture Archive and Communication System (PACS) & RIS system, plus any other clinical software system operating within the hospital system that is supported by the department, operates 24/7 at maximum efficiency. Perform system administration duties including database management and backup; image data acquisition monitoring; training; system hardware configuration and software loading functions

    Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

    The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.

    1. Update applicable PACS and RIS systems configuration and documentation as new modalities, workstation, and RIS procedure codes are added to the system.
    2. Monitor all system back-ups to ensure they occur on schedule and respond in a timely manner to failed jobs or processes to ensure continuous 24/7 service to the medical system for the PACS system and any other clinical systems which the department supports.
    3. Monitor system queues to ensure that all systems are functional and performing to required specifications necessary for 24/7 system viability.
    4. Administer systems security to ensure that unauthorized individuals do not have access to system resources. Assign and update user and system passwords. Monitor and ensure compliance to applicable HIPPA regulations.
    5. Assist in the accurate inventory of all PACS equipment and related image processing/viewing hardware and software with all information related to the location, software levels, installation dates, etc. built into the designated RAD IT database. Perform regular inspections as necessary to ensure that equipment is well maintained and operating in a safe environment. Ensure timely and accurate completion of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance is completed as assigned.
    6. Escalate critical system issues to the RAD IT Technical Systems Administrator and/or RAD IT management for review, investigation and resolution.
    7. As necessary, act as a liaison between Diagnostic Imaging, the UMMS Information Systems department, and vendor partners regarding system issues, upgrades, and problems when appropriate.
    8. Maintain data files and control procedures for the PACS.

    A. Maintain a master host list with the IP addresses and host names of all equipment connected on the PACS network.

    B. Perform database backups at least once each day.

    C. Periodically checks the process monitor to ensure that studies are flowing from the modalities to the archive, and routing to the review stations.

    D. Fix studies that are broken during RIS validation or OCR (optical character recognition).

    E. Split and merge studies as required.

    F. Update the applicable PACS system configuration forms as new modalities, PACS workstations, and RIS procedure codes are added.

    1. Serve as the archive jukebox manager to prepare and load disks, service requests for off-line volumes, and manage queue activity.
    2. Train current/new faculty, staff and other approved end users in the proper use and function of the PACS system.
    3. Provide additional training for upgrades and enhancements to the system as needed and required due to software upgrades. Provide refresher training to current users as needed. Provide training/discussion groups to enhance user effectiveness with computer functions and acts as a resource person to all system users as needed.
    4. Attends and participates in various in-service training, external training, workshops, conferences and other relevant programs for professional growth and development.
    5. Performs related duties as required.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    ** Education and Experience**

    1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or graduation from an AMA approved school of Radiological Technology with a valid RRT certification, or equivalent experience required.
    2. Experience performing system administration and user training in a healthcare environment strongly preferred.

    ** Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**

    1. Proficient with computer operations i.e. use of computer hardware, software and associated system procedures including the use and operation of radiology-related software, and systems procedures required. Knowledge of database/systems management principles and practices, medical imaging equipment and medical terminology strongly preferred.
    2. Effective oral and written communication skills are required to work with a diverse group of people at various position levels both inside and outside of the organization.
    3. Maintain competency in the imaging informatics field through the PACS professional association.

    Additional Information

    This is a position at UMMS Shore locations.

    Requires travel between the multiple UMMS Shore locations and occasional travel to other UMMS locations.

    This position is considered hybrid and a percentage of work can be performed remote.
