    Job Description

    JOB SUMMARY:

    Assists in the preparation of the operating room to receive the surgical patient. Ensure appropriate instrumentation is present. Anticipates the needs of the surgeon before and during the surgical procedure. Supports System and Nursing Strategic Plans, Relationship-Based Care, and Shared Leadership.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:

    1. Assumes specific responsibilities of a scrub technologist, but may act in the capacity of a runner during the case. Ensures and promotes quality age specific patient care as defined in unit-based scope of service.

    2. In the pre-operative phase prepares the operating room to receive patient, ensures patient, room, equipment, and supply readiness.

    3. In the intra-operative phase assists surgeon in scrub capacity according to standards and within their designated scope of practice and anticipating the needs of the surgeon.

    4. In the post-operative phase assists in the decontamination of the operating room, turnover and decontamination of the instrumentation.

    5. Strictly adheres to asceptic technique.

    6. Functions cooperatively as a team member, contributing to quality improvement processes and cost control measures.

    7. May serve as a transport person as needed.

    8. Communicates in a professional manner, demonstrating respect for patients/families/significant others and other health care members. Promotes patient satisfaction.

    9. Offers support and feedback to peers and staff. Applies principles of caring and healing in interactions with patients and families and with colleagues.

    10. Seeks and supports opportunities for professional growth and development.

    11. Offers consistent and visible support to team members.

    12. Strives to achieve excellence of service as described in the CARE Manual.

    13. Responds to the following Shore Health System codes: Code Red (in the immediate area), Code Pink (when called), Code Yellow (when called).

    14. Responsible for honest behavior in all matters. To the best of the employee’s knowledge and understanding, complies with all Federal and State laws and regulations.

    15. Maintains the privacy and security of all confidential and protected health information. Uses and discloses only that information which is necessary to perform the function of the job.

    16. Ensures accuracy in the medication process, including, transport, storage and security of medications to include IV solutions

    17. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:

    • High School diploma or equivalent.
    • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program or a minimum of two years acute care experience.
    • Surgical Technologist Certification preferred. Excellent verbal communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
    • The employee in this position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on the age of the patients served.
    • He/she must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status, to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the necessary care as described in the department’s policies and procedures
