General Summary
Under general supervision, coordinates all administrative activities relative to the Adult Stem Cell Transplant Program within the Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center, including validating and appealing reimbursement coverage, coordinating pre-hospitalization testing and assuring thorough patient follow-up. Represents the Stem Cell Transplant Program to patients, families, referring physicians, hospital staff, and local, state and federal agencies and organizations.

Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

- Facilitates the Stem Cell Transplant Program, acting as a resource to all members of the health care team.
- Develops, recommends, and implements, upon approval of the Medical Director and Senior Transplant Coordinator, policies and procedures to facilitate successful completion of all tasks required to fulfill the goals of the Stem Cell Transplant Program.
- Develops, maintains currency of and monitors variances of Stem Cell Transplant related standard operating procedures.
- Develops and maintains communication and record-keeping systems to facilitate patient referral, acceptance, and management within the Stem Cell Transplant Program.
- Communicates with referring physicians concerning patient eligibility, protocols, pre-Stem Cell Transplant treatment regimens and related issues.
- Establishes and maintains frequent contact with referring physicians and institutions to ensure the timely transmission of pertinent medical records, pathology slides, and diagnostic test results. Communicates same to medical staff.
- Develops and maintains procedures to ensure the appropriate and acceptable financial coverage for Stem Cell Transplant patients in conjunction with the BMT Financial Coordinator and the Managed Care Department.
- Maintains relationships with external donor registrars and facilitates unrelated donor stem cell collection to ensure appropriate billing for all hospital and physician services
- Produces, under supervision, all reports regarding the Stem Cell Transplant Program.
- Responds to requests for data and information from the UPI Managed Care Division related to the stem cell transplant program.
