GENERAL SUMMARY
The Manager, UI-UX Design will join our dynamic _i_Harbor (Center for Innovation) team and will be responsible for the overall vision and strategy for user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design across the University of Maryland Medical System’s (UMMS) software and digital assets. The successful candidate will ensure that all elements of the user experience incorporate exceptional visual design optimized for improved usability and usefulness, and create design standards to ensure elements provide a consistent experience for end-users throughout all team projects and our various technology assets. The successful candidate will demonstrate a passion for delivering adaptive and creative solutions to UI/UX design problems by guiding and mentoring team members on applying industry best practices and emerging trends in user experience design and user interface technology.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
- Provide leadership, direction, and mentorship for a team of UI-UX Designers; lead creative and holistic thinking across diverse product releases, platforms, and devices.
- Develops and oversees the delivery of a comprehensive UI-UX vision for software and technology products, along with a plan for evolutionary, iterative updates that actualize the larger vision over time.
- Build strong relationships and operating rhythms with leaders inside and outside their core product team to efficiently implement user interface and experiences that are cohesive, inclusive, and well-informed.
- Investigate user experience design requirements for software and technology assets.
- Synthesizes requirement across the team to create an overall design strategy.
- Lead the design of UI elements and tools such as navigation menus, search boxes, tabs, and widgets for our software and digital assets ensuring all products have a common and cohesive look and feel.
- Act as a senior producer for UI, working to resolve roadblocks to ensuring all projects are running smoothly and according to schedule.
- Mentor, oversee, review, and provide feedback on the performance of the staff of UI-UX designers and ensure they are following best practices and achieving high quality designs/layouts.
- Identify and select new technologies to improve existing workflows and operations.
- Utilize wireframes, visual and graphic designs, flow diagrams, storyboards, site maps, and prototypes to demonstrate design strategy solutions.
- Lead preparation and presentation of rough drafts to internal teams and key stakeholders.
- Illustrate design ideas using storyboards, process flows, and sitemaps.
- Develop and provide oversight of UI mockups and prototypes that clearly illustrate how applications may function and be consumed.
- Lead testing of UI elements such as Call to Action (CTA) buttons, banners, page layouts, page designs, and page links.
- Ensure team members create and deliver user experience across applications that are both tailored to stakeholder needs while still following established design standards across applications and products.
- Advise and guide the implementation of UX research methodologies and testing activities in order to analyze and predict user behavior.
- Develop style standards on typography, graphic design, colors, and images.
- Work with developers and engineers to brainstorm application ideas.
