    Job Description

    General Summary

    Supervises the general operation and maintenance of the Central Power Plant, HVACR, electrical staff, and grounds maintenance. Perform matters of performance reviews, discipline, budget development, planning, training of personnel in their general and specific duties, safety and effective management.

    Reporting Relationships

    • Reports directly to the Director for the Department of Facilities Engineering. Manages three lead people/supervisors and nine additional staff members: Stationary Engineers, HVACR Mechanic, Maintenance Electrician, and Groundskeepers, as assigned or required.
    • Requires independent effort with limited direct supervision; establishes course of action and develops own method to obtain results; recommends and/or implements policies and procedures in specific areas.
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical or related science required. 12 to 15 years supervisory experience in a hospital or institutional engineering environment may be considered in lieu of Bachelor’s degree.
    • Five to eight years supervisory experience in a hospital or institutional engineering environment.
    • Maryland 1st Grade Stationary Engineer’s License, maintained in good standing, preferred.
    • Valid and current Maryland driver’s license required.

    Working Conditions

    • While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to risk of electrical shock.
    • The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places, outside weather conditions, works with explosives, occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of radiation, and vibration.
    • Potential for regular exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials requiring the observance of Standard Precautions and safe handling practices.
    • This position has been classified as low or no exposure risk and does not require the completion of an annual testing but may require "just in time" testing if the need arises.

    • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move in excess of 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
