    ** General Summary**

    Under general supervision, collaborates with hospital personnel and departments, legal counsel, University of Maryland, Baltimore faculty investigators, and public and private sponsors and organizations regarding requirements for conducting and implementing clinical research at the University of Maryland Medical Center.

    Under general supervision, collaborates with hospital personnel and departments, legal counsel, University of Maryland, Baltimore faculty investigators, and public and private sponsors and organizations regarding requirements for conducting and implementing clinical research at the University of Maryland Medical Center.

    Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

    The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.

    1. Collaborates with hospital personnel and departments, compliance, and University of Maryland, Baltimore clinical research personnel regarding requirements for conducting clinical research.
    2. Ensures research-related activities by UMMC clinical staff are within scope of practice and follow UMMC policy.
    3. Processes new inquiries for hosting research studies and coordinates the departmental review process.
    4. Works with UMMC departmental leadership to determine whether any extraordinary level of effort or resources is needed from UMMC personnel to carry out research protocols which would require funding, and will identify any possible future issues related to effort of UMMS personnel or resources.
    5. Connect UMB research staff with UMMC department resources and content experts.
    6. Facilitates communication between UMB study investigators and UMMC departmental leadership to obtain necessary UMMC administrative approval for research activities research activities.
    7. If required, attends meetings with investigators to understand and anticipate research support needs.
    8. May, at the invitation of the study team, attend study initiation meetings.
    9. Serves as a member of the any research related UMMC or UMMS Committees providing clinic and UMMC department specific insights to proposal reviews and decision-making.
    10. Communicate with UMMC finance office to facilitate payment for research activities occurs as per contracts and agreements.
    11. Acts as a resource to investigators, staff, and clinical research coordinators.
    12. Designs tracking and documentation system for all approved and potential clinical research studies at UMMC.
    13. Designs and implements tracking system for clinical staff involvement in research related activities.
    14. Provides information and input to hospital leadership as needed for hospital leadership to determine feasibility of providing requested resources and support for clinical studies.
    15. Documents UMMC departmental concerns, suggestions, requested modifications and decisions.
    16. Communicates and liaises with study teams for the purpose of ensuring hospital clinical staff have received appropriate training and clinical competence for research related activities.
    17. Provides recommendations for optimization of UMMC clinical staff time associated with research-related activities;
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    ** Education and Experience**

    1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required, Master’s Degree is preferred.
    2. Current licensure in the State of Maryland as Registered Nurse is required.
    3. Five (5) years of direct patient care experience as an RN is required, critical care or oncology preferred. on an in-patient unit is preferred.
    4. Experience in clinical research preferred.

    1. Ability to understand and utilize scientific/medical terminology and research methods in both oral and written communications.
    2. Ability to work independently and to serve as a consultant for clinical practice issues.
    3. Ability to use measurable and verifiable information for making decisions or judgments.
    4. Ability to network with, and present information to key groups and individuals
    5. Ability to apply knowledge of research procedures and clinical practice to recommend changes to research protocol
    6. Knowledge of best practices in clinical research.
    7. Excellent oral and written communication skills. 8. Experience leading interdisciplinary teams
