    Job Description

    ** General Summary**

    • Under general supervision performs a full range of advanced physical therapy services through direct patient evaluations and treatment as well as non-direct patient care activities. Operates and models a high level of general clinical competency and developing expertise in at least on clinical area.

    ** Education and Experience**

    • Bachelor's Degree plus five years of physical therapist experience, or Master’s Degree, or Master's equivalent, or Doctorate of PT, required.
    • Current licensure as a physical therapist with the State of Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is required.
    • Two years full time experience as a licensed Physical Therapist is required.
    • Current CPR certification is required.

    ** Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**

    • Knowledge of physical therapy scope of practice, theory, and practice techniques in orthopedics, plastics, pediatrics, neurology, psychology, anatomy physiology, kinesiology, general medicine, cardiology, and trauma.
    • In the UMMC Rehabilitation Unit, knowledge of equipment, such as, wheelchairs, transfer devices, lift equipment, modalities, and other therapeutic equipment is required.
    • Demonstrates competence/advanced knowledge and skills in at least one clinical area. Demonstrates the development of advanced skills in clinical practice, educational, or leadership skills.
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills are required in order to work with patients and other therapy personnel effectively.
    • Advanced knowledge of physical therapy theory and practice techniques is required.
    • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient populations(s) served. Ability to demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and ability to assess data reflective of the patient's requirements relative to his or her population-specific and age specific needs.

    Working Conditions

    • Weekend, shift work, holiday, on-call, and overtime may be required.
    • There is potential for regular exposure to patients possessing infectious disease in the work environment, requiring observance of “Standard Precautions” by wearing protective clothing and following safe work practices.
    • Ability to stand and walk up to 95% of the time while performing physical therapy services.
