General Summary
Under direct supervision, assists Radiographers by performing support duties relating to patient information tracking and routine patient preparation.
Principal Responsibilities and Tasks
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.
- Performs routine patient preparatory work for radiology services in accordance with departmental protocols and as instructed by the supervisor.
A. Greets and receives patients; identifies patient by hospital armband or by name, and escorts patient to the appropriate examination area.
B. Informs patients of examination to be performed and instructs patient on proper gowning procedure. Assists patient into examination room and onto and off of radiographic table. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and provides the care needed as described in the unit/area/department policies and procedures.
- Identifies and matches images with patient data ensuring accuracy. Processes images by digital and analog technology.
- Enters patient information, Radiographer number and examination billing information into computer system accurately. Checks all information for accuracy and completeness and obtains missing or incorrect data as needed.
- Prepares contrast materials prior to the study.
- Maintains supplies in radiographic room restocking according to inventory list. Cleans room and equipment as required. Disinfects area after patient use and at the beginning and end of the day using the appropriate disinfectant, generally accepted cleaning procedures and the appropriate safety measures.
- Performs miscellaneous clerical duties, as needed. Answers telephone, assists and/or directs callers as appropriate. Assists physicians, nurses, and the department secretary with locating images, as required.
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and provides the care needed as described in the unit/area/department policies and procedures.
- Attends in-service training programs and other relevant training sessions for professional growth and development as directed by the supervisor.
- Observes departmental and UMMS policies and procedures.
- Performs related duties as required.
