Job Description
General Summary
The Oncology Social Worker is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for the patients in the cancer center. Provides care to those patientswiththe social work process, and coordinated patient care withother healthcare team members, according to the established standards. Performs counseling, crisis intervention, and as necessary, assists with discharge planning services to University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center (UM BWMC)for patients of all ages and their families. Performs psychosocial assessments, plans for, and implementsor refers toidentified services for patients.There is reasonable anticipation that employees in this position will not be exposed to blood-borne pathogens.

Reporting Relationships
Reports todesignated Managerand Medical Director of the cancer program
Qualifications
Master’s degree from an accredited school of social work. Currently licensed or license eligible in the State of Maryland. Previous experience in an oncology setting preferred. LCSW-C and OSW-C preferred.
