    Job Description

    General Summary

    Under moderate supervision of the Lead Stationary Engineer and under general supervision of the Chief Stationary Engineer, operates and maintains the central plant and related systems. Assumes the responsibilities of the Chief Stationary Engineer in his/her absence.

    Reporting Relationships

    Reports directly to the Lead Stationary Engineer and in general to the Chief Stationary Engineer. Follows general instructions and directions, plans own time to a degree to meet pre-determined schedules, work is subject to moderately direct supervision.

    Qualifications

    • To perform this job successfully, and individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
    • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
    • Valid Maryland First Grade Stationary Engineers license which must be kept current. Maryland drivers license which must be kept current and in good standing.
    • Two years' experience in the operation and maintenance of central utility system equipment required.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to risk of electrical shock.

    The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places, in outside weather conditions, and is occasionally exposed to humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold and heat, risk of electrical shock, radiation, and vibration.

    The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Potential for regular exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials requires the observance of standard precaution and safe handling practices.
