Job Description
** General Summary**
The Vice President of Finance, University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Group (UMSJMG) will provide financial leadership to the employed physicians and advanced practitioners of UMSJMG and to UM Urgent Care through the SVP Clinical Integration. This senior position will work in partnership with the VP Population Health and Community Health, Value-Based Care, Case Management and Operations-UM SJMG, to optimize financial performance of over 230 providers of the medical group in alignment with overall UMSJMC and UMMS goals. This position will provide similar support to UM Urgent Care, supporting the Director of Operations of UM Urgent Care. Reporting to the SVP Clinical Integration and as a member of the Executive Team, the VP Finance-UM SJMG and UM Urgent Care will work with other members of the leadership team to advance UM SJMC strategic goals.
** Principal Responsibilities and Tasks**
- This leader will manage all financial operations for the UM SJMG, including long range financial planning, budgeting, accounting, reporting, information technology, revenue cycle operations and billing compliance.
- This leader will be a liaison to contracted services including medical coding, billing and compliance related activities.
- Works with practice leadership and staff to ensure optimal financial performance of UMSJMG practices. In partnership with other senior leaders, will meet regularly with providers to review performance metrics, identifying opportunities to improve productivity and overall efficiency.
- Support Practice Managers and Directors in the implementation of group-wide financial performance improvement initiatives, particularly related to revenue cycle enhancement.
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of provider productivity and practice performance. Seek out and develop reporting for new metrics that provide value to providers, managers, and leadership in assessing practice financial performance.
- Responsibility for development of annual budget that aligns with UM SJMC and UMMS strategic and financial goals.
- Develop and present business plans and develops proformas relating to recruitment of new providers, acquisition of practices, or new products/services within existing specialties that clinically, operationally, and financially benefit the organization.
- Oversees the physician Revenue Cycle to achieve and maintain a high-level of performance with maximum return on the services provided by UMSJMG providers. Ensure billing for all services are compliant and within regulatory guidelines while reducing denials and increasing collections. Facilitate communication between billing staff and providers to promote timely, accurate billing. Closely monitors denial performance.
- Direct management of Revenue Cycle Director and Financial Analysts.
- Act as UMSJMG compliance representative by participating in Compliance Committee meetings, as well as ensuring provider billing and contracts meet appropriate guidelines.
- Works with Analytics staff, making sure that provider compensation is executed per terms of employment contracts. Assists in researching and designing new compensation models that promote recruitment/retention, and alignment with UMSJMG strategic initiatives.
- Participate in University of Maryland Physician Network (UMPN) committees to advance financial performance goals for UMMS.
- Provide financial leadership for UM Urgent Care LLC in partnership with the Senior Director of Operations, UM Urgent Care, and reporting to the SVP Clinical Integration. Completes needed performance analyses including but not limited to referral tracking, current state performance scorecards and new business financial analyses.
Serves as a member of the UM St. Joseph Medical Center Executive Team.
