    Job Description

    General Summary

    This is a Nursing Supervisor position with a focus on expediting barriers to patient discharges.

    The Expediting RN will be trained to the Nursing Supervisor role to optimize your understanding of hospital operations and patient flow within the organization. When this has been completed, you will be trained to the unique position of Expediting RN within the Nursing Admin Staffing department. In this role, you will facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration focused on identifying and resolving barriers to discharge for a defined patient population. This position requires strong interpersonal skills, assertiveness, flexibility, and focus. You must also possess strong clinical and critical thinking skills and be able to adapt and multi-task in a very fast-paced environment.

    The Nursing Supervisor is a Registered Nurse who is for the duration of a shift, with primary responsibility of maintaining standards established at the unit and divisional level by the nurse manager and director of Nursing, and with the authority to modify those standards if in the best interest of the hospital’s customers. The supervisor provides nursing administrative coverage in the absence of the directors of Nursing, and hospital administrative coverage in the absence of administration at a higher level. The supervisor has direct access to support service resources essential to nursing and patient care when the issue requires immediate attention.

    Has delegated line authority for nursing associates for the duration of the shift for issues requiring immediate attention.

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Graduation from an accredited nursing education program approved by the Board of Nursing or found by the Board to be substantially equivalent to the programs in Maryland.
    • BSN degree preferred.
    • Current registration with the Maryland State Board of Nursing.
    • Five (5) years of progressive experience in hospital nursing and proven administrative/leadership ability required.
    • Experience/knowledge of patient flow preferred.
    • BLS and ACLS required.

    Working Conditions

    Works inside. May be exposed to body fluids. Exposed to frequent interruptions and multiple crisis situations. Potential for regular exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials, requiring the observation of Standard (Universal) Precautions and safe handling practices. This position has been classified as medium exposure risk and requires the completion of an annual respirator mask fitting.

    Physical Requirements

    Work is heavy. Requires close attention to many details. Standing, walking, and ascending/descending stairs is required 3-5 hours/day, 0-3 hours sitting, bending, lifting and reaching required up to and in excess of one hundred 100 pounds, in accordance with Safe Patient Lifting policy. Requires hearing and visual acuity 5-8 hours/day.
