About the HLA/Immunogenetics Lab: The University of Maryland Medical Centers (UMMC) Division of Transplantation has a reputation for compassionate care, innovative techniques and surgical excellence. The UMMC HLA / Immunogenetics Laboratory is the provider of histocompatibility testing for UMMC kidney, pancreas, liver, heart, lung and stem cell transplant programs. As one of the busiest transplant centers in the country, and the largest program in Maryland, our team of transplant surgeons perform more than 450 solid organ transplants each year. The MLS ontributes to the diagnosis, treatment, and care of patients by the accurate performance of the laboratory testing procedures on serum, blood and tissue. The HLA and Immunogenetics Lab works under the umbrella of regulatory compliance to assure an efficient, effective and high quality work process. The qualified candidate will perform high complexity HLA testing including determination of antibody specificity, DNA-based molecular typing (SSOP and NGS), and flow cytometric crossmatching for the evaluation of solid organ and stem cell transplant patients and their prospective donors. The MLS will participate in a rotating on-call schedule to perform urgent deceased donor compatibility testing for the solid organ transplant programs. Effective verbal and written communication skills. This position requires a Bachelors degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, basic sciences or related field. Must be eligible for certification by a nationally recognized program, e.g. ASCP or equivalent and obtain certification within 12 months of employment. A successful completion of a NACCLS accredited clinical rotation or at least 1 year of clinical laboratory experience in an accredited hospital or reference laboratory setting is also required.
