The Urban Institute publishes a substantial amount of content on a weekly basis across a range of channels. Supporting this content with relevant photography is crucial to connecting to our audiences. The multimedia specialist will maintain the quality, consistency, and integrity of Urban's photographic output. In early 2019, the Urban Institute will be moving to a new office location, featuring enhanced multimedia capabilities at our new state-of-the-art theater space. The Multimedia Specialist, along with our events and design teams, will have the opportunity to maximize the impact of this new space via dynamic visuals, event photography, and customized presentation templates. Responsibilities: * Coordinate daily with authors, designers, and production staff to provide engaging visual content to support Urbans communications channels * Research, select and optimize photos for research reports, blog posts, and digital features * Manage Urbans photography archives and stock photography licenses, ensuring the organization meets all legal and ethical photography use standards * Build relationships with researchers and authors across Urban to ensure clear communication as well as consistency and accuracy in photo usage * Coordinate with both in-house and freelance resources to provide custom photography, illustration, and video to support interactive features, branded materials, and events What youll bring: The successful candidate will: * Possess a bachelor's degree in Visual Communication, Photojournalism, Design, or a related field * Have at least 1-3 years of professional experience with a strong portfolio (internships are certainly considered) * Demonstrate strong communication skills, specifically in conveying best practices for using editorial photos to communicate complex concepts * Demonstrate knowledge of copyright law in both digital and print publications. * Have an unwavering sense of photojournalism ethics and accuracy * Display expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite * Show enthusiasm for visual storytelling in general, but especially for photo editing and design * Have working knowledge using Canon DSLRs and audio equipment * Demonstrate ability to work on a team and collaborate with a wide range of colleagues * Have familiarity with HTML, CSS, and Drupal * Show aptitude for creating flexible templates and managing efficient workflows * Take initiative to suggest improvements that will keep our tasks, workflows and products on the cutting edge * Exhibit organization abilities, attention to detail, and an eye for quality control * Communicate respectfully with individuals of differing backgrounds and experience What youll experience: Working in the Nations Capital, the epicenter of public policy among a network of policy experts, you can expect to have an impact on policy areas you care about and work with great colleagues who are smart, mission-driven, and collaborative.nbsp; You will blend academic rigor with on-the-ground collaboration, be encouraged and supported to fulfill your potential through meaningful work that matters, and enjoy a welcoming workplace free from harassment, discrimination and intolerance.
