Research Imaging Institute Intern
Research Imaging Institute Intern UT Health Science Center at San Antonio 148 reviews - San Antonio, TX 78229 Part-time, Internship Summer Internship Opportunity This summer, the BrainMap Project is offering students who are interested in pursuing a career in research the opportunity to observe the inner-workings of a neuroimaging research lab in our coding lab. Our past coders have gone on to pursue careers in neuroscience, medicine, psychology and psychiatry at various prestigious universities. Job Description: A main tenet of BrainMap is to maintain a database of published neuroimaging studies to promote the sharing of data. Students will be responsible for coding papers (i.e., adding new neuroimaging studies into the BrainMap database). Coders extract data (e.g., conditions, experiments, brain locations/coordinates) from neuroimaging articles that are then, inputted into our BrainMap database. Summer students usually work on a particular project, e.g., code articles for a particular disease like Schizophrenia, ADHD, MS, etc. and then help run a meta-analysis; the results of which can then be presented at various conferences, e.g., Southwestern Psychological Association (SWPA), Texas Psychological Association (TPA) conference, etc. Qualifications/Background: Students should have an interest in scientific research and be able to comprehensively read and break down neuroimaging research articles to extract relevant data. As regards background, we have had all types of undergraduate and graduate students, as well as high school students, as interns (e.g., Pre-Med, Nursing, Psychology, Neuroscience/Imaging, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Bioinformatics). Requirements: Students must be able to commit to a minimum of 5 - 10 hours per week and be able to meet with the coding team once every two weeks. It is preferable that students have their own laptop to work on, but it is not necessary. Benefits: Students will gain a better grasp of neuroimaging research and what it entails, i.e., what types of research are performed, how extracted data is used, how to run a meta-analysis and even the chance to tour a mock scanner used for research at our facility. Contact Info: To set up an interview or if you have further questions, please call our research assistant Janaye Dews (Office: 210-567-8213/Cell: 210-232-5787).
