    Johnson & Johnson Vision (JJV), a member of the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies, is recruiting for Research & Development science and engineering interns.  JJV is a global company with operations in the United States, Japan, Latin America, Asia-Pacific and Europe/Middle East/Africa regions.  Research, innovation, and new product development are key focus areas of our organization.     JJV is recruiting rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors as well as graduate students for internships in the Research & Development (R&D) Division located in Jacksonville, Florida.

     

    Academic majors for INTERNSHIP opportunities in R&D are:  

    • APPLIED MATHEMATICS
    • CHEMISTRY: Polymers/Materials Science
    • ENGINEERING: Aerospace, Biomedical, Computer Science, Chemical, Electrical, Materials Science/Polymers, Mechanical, Optical, General Engineering
    • OPTICS
    • PHYSICS
    • PHYSICAL SCIENCES

     

    MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • R&D ANALYTICAL – Work in a team of scientists and engineers supporting the analytical characterization of contact lenses and polymeric materials.  Role will include hands on experience with analytical metrology, test method development, and the reporting and analysis of test data.  Proficiency in statistical analysis (e.g., Minitab) preferred.  Background in chemistry, mechanical engineering, or materials science/polymers engineering preferred.
    • R&D CHEMICAL ENGINEERING/MATERIALS SCIENCE – Work in an engineering team dedicated to developing new products and processes with a focus on enhancing fundamental scientific understanding of contact lenses.  Graduate students preferred.
    • R&D OPTICAL ENGINEERING – Work in an engineering team dedicated to optical system design and vision science within the new product development team.  Role will involve instrumentation, programming, data acquisition with a spectral imager, and data analysis.  Position requires knowledge of Matlab, image processing, and statistical analysis.  Rising seniors or graduate students preferred.  Background in applied mathematics, engineering (biomedical, computer science, electrical, mechanical, or optical), optics, or physics is preferred.
    • R&D OPTICAL METROLOGY – Work in an engineering team with a focus on the development of metrology for contact lenses and related applications such as injection mold tooling.  Position will provide hands on experience with state-of-the-art equipment, its characterization and development, and analysis and reporting of findings.  Engineering majors (mechanical, electrical, etc.) or background in optics or physics is preferred.
    • R&D RAW MATERIALS / RAW MATERIALS DEVELOPMENT – Work in a team of scientists and engineers supporting the development of new materials and materials processing for application to contact or intraocular lenses.  Background in biomedical engineering, chemistry, chemical engineering, or materials science/polymers engineering preferred.
    • R&D MECHANICAL ENGINEERING (EQUIPMENT/PROCESS DESIGN) – Work in an engineering team dedicated to the planning, development, and design of equipment processes for the manufacture of contact lenses supporting the introduction of new products.  Completion of core mechanical engineering course work is required.  Rising seniors are preferred.  Knowledge of CAD (e.g., Solidworks), data analysis (e.g., excel, Minitab), and MS Office strongly preferred.

     

    A successful candidate will be able to do the following:

    • Students must be able to provide their own transportation to Jacksonville and to/from work every day. 
      • A stipend will be offered to students that meet the commuting distance eligibility requirements.

        

    • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States and not require sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1-B status) now or in the future.
    • Candidates should demonstrate strong leadership and a clear identifiable work ethos within their team.
    • Candidates must adhere to safety and environmental policies and procedures and support department objectives.
    • Candidates must demonstrate and maintain behavioral standards in line with company standards and policy.
  • Qualifications
    • Candidate must be actively pursuing at a minimum a Bachelor of Science Degree in Applied Mathematics, Chemistry, Engineering, Physics, Physical Sciences, or a related academic field.
    • Candidate must be a Sophomore or above with a graduation date after August of 2021
    • Candidate must be detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to manage multiple tasks and assignments.
    • Candidate must be able to work well both individually and as part of a collaborative team.  
    • Enrollment (not necessarily taking classes) at an accredited college/university during the internship period is required.
    • Availability to work full-time (40 hours/week) during the internship period is required. 
    • A minimum G.P.A. of 3.0 is required. 
    • Demonstrated leadership and/or participation in campus/community service activities is strongly preferred.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (e.g., word, excel, powerpoint, etc.) and statistical analysis tools (e.g., Minitab, Jmp, etc.) is preferred.
