    ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Provides hands-on dental care in a variety of settings while achieving the highest levels of appropriateness, quality, efficiency, accessibility, and responsiveness.

    PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:

    • Maintains a full appointment schedule  
    • Provides a full range of general dental services within the dentist’s defined scope of training, using state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment techniques
    • Meets patient needs as they arise, referring patients to specialists or other external services, as appropriate
    • Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications and treatment regimens, as appropriate
    • Directs and coordinates the patient care activities of dental technical and support staff, as required
    • Follows established departmental policies, procedures and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives and safety, environmental and/or infection control standards
    • Supervises and acts as a preceptor for dental students
    • Maintains necessary credentialing, licensure and continuing education requirements

    • Acts as a role model and organizational champion, positively contributing to the mission and vision of the organization
    • Focuses operational activities to support the mission, goals, objectives, and strategic plan of the organization
    • Understanding of the position and role of an FQHC in the healthcare environment

    QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND ABILITIES·         

    • At least one year of experience in practice or residency program
    • Experience in a dental practice serving diverse populations, preferably including caring for patients with multiple barriers such as poverty, language, mental illness or unstable housing is a plus 
    • Familiarity with a community-based dental environment; FQHC experience highly desired
    • Thorough knowledge of principles and practices of modern dentistry and oral surgery, dental terminology and dental science
    • Thorough understanding of theories, methods and procedures for the prevention of dental diseases and required corrective treatment
    • Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of dental evaluations, diagnosis, and treatment
    • Ability to observe, assess and record patients’ symptoms, reactions and progress
    • Ability to develop and implement individualized dental care plans for patients
    • Knowledge of relevant drugs and non-pharmaceutical patient care aides and ability to prescribe, dosage, and instruct patients in correct usage
    • Knowledge of ethical and legal standards for the delivery of oral health care
    • Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements
    • Ability to maintain quality, safety and infection control standards
    • Ability to supervise and train employees and dental students, to include organizing, prioritizing and scheduling work assignments
    • Strong computer skills in a Windows-based environment, and with electronic health records and practice management systems; experience with EPIC preferred

    EDUCATION/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS

    • DDS or DMD degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in general dentistry
    • Current licensure in the state of Oregon
    • Valid DEA license to prescribe narcotics
    • Current CPR/AED certification

    WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT

    • Duties are performed primarily in an office and clinic environment. Some evening or weekend hours are required.
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
    • Requires ability to sit, stand, lift, carry, walk, read fine print, and communicate in person, in writing, by telephone and electronically.
    • Moderate physical activity. Requires handling average-weight objects up to 15-20 pounds, assisting with patients and standing and/or walking for most the day.
    • Work involves considerable exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises.
    • Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
    • Will work with blood or blood-borne pathogens and will require OSHA training.
