    Job Description

    The Equipment Operator Basic is responsible for the safe operation of small equipment to assist in mountain maintenance and completing department projects.

    Essential Job Functions

    • Operate small equipment including skid steers, forklifts, rubber tire backhoes, chainsaws, tree skidders and small skidders/excavators
    • Perform dirt work, rock picking, brushing and revegetation including but not limited to seeding, fertilizing and hay blowing
    • Perform basic maintenance on equipment and follow reporting procedures for notifying the Vehicle Maintenance Facility (VMF) of equipment issues
    • Attend fire prevention training
    • Attend chain saw safety class
    • Attend first aid and ATV training (as required)
    • Other duties as assigned
  • Qualifications

    Qualifications

    • Must be 18 years of age or older
    • High school degree or equivalent preferred
    • Valid, current unrestricted Driver’s License required
    • General knowledge of rigging for material movement
    • Comfortable operating equipment on mountain terrain
    • Knowledge of storm water management preferred
    • Current Red Cross or American Heart Association CPR and First Aid Certification preferred

    Supervision Given and Received

    Supervision given : This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

    Supervision received : Works under direct supervision of Trails Manager. Tasks are assigned according to specific procedures, and work is checked frequently. Instruction, advice and assistance are readily available.

    Work Environment and Physical Demands

    • Ability to reach, crouch, kneel, stand, bend or be on your feet for extended periods of time
    • Regularly work in wet, cold, hot conditions requiring the use of protective apparel/equipment to prevent exposure to the elements and may be required to walk on slippery and uneven surfaces
    • Must be able to frequently lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs. individually or with assistance (weight limits can vary according to position, but no more than 50)
