    Job Description

    JOB SUMMARY

    The Purchasing Manager works closely with Operations, Marketing, Restaurant Supervision, Vendors, and the R&D Director.  This position has the responsibility for the procurement of goods for Farmer Boys, including planning, scheduling, initiating, monitoring and quality assurance of all procurement and contract activities.  This position requires independent and professional judgment and reports to the VP of Supply Chain and R&D. 

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    • Manages monthly and weekly based contracts and follows up with Vendors on new contracts which are then reviewed by the VP of Supply Chain. 
    • Initiate new RFP’s with Vendors who have been selected for the bidding process and follow up that the forms come back complete with required information.
    • Manage set up process for new products.
    • Conduct product specification tests on products (follow up with vendors on discrepancies and maintain results in database).
    • Monitor monthly will call report and monthly distribution credit report for all units.
    • Work with vendor and distributor on product shortages (review weekly order inventory guide, weekly usage summary, weekly         proprietary inventory report and monthly performance report, set up substitute products if necessary).
    • Participate in Operations weekly calls with corporate unit managers and franchisees; present current state of commodity markets.
    • Arrange for products for photoshoots, R&D cuttings, preference studies and the needs of the R&D Manager.
    • Work with marketing on various promotions.
    • Source products for R&D and arrange for samples and products for R&D tests.  Attend R&D meetings.
    • Work with Vendor on inventory levels for printed products.
    • Work with Ops and Training on system wide roll outs.

    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in a business-related area preferred.

     EXPERIENCE: 5-10 years’ experience in similar role within a retail or restaurant environment preferred.

    SKILLS/ABILITIES: Capable of producing high quality work within tight timeframes while handling multiple requests and working on different projects. Ability to work with little or no direction and/or supervision. Team player with a creative problem-solving approach and attention to detail is required.  Candidate must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills along with working knowledge in Excel, Access (pivot tables, writing queries and reports), Microsoft Word.  A high level of attention to detail, ability to multitask, honesty and integrity. 

    JOB REQUIREMENTS

    · MINIMUM AGE 18.

    · MUST HAVE A VALID DRIVER LICENSE

    · ABLE TO WORK EXTENSIVELY IN AN OFFICE ENVIRONMENT, HOWEVER, MAY ALSO BE REQUIRED TO TRAVEL.

    · Able to sit for periods of time, with repetitive computer and telephone use.

    · Occasional heavy lifting, bending, stooping

    · Able to walk around facilities in order to satisfy visual management functions (on site plant visits, looking at product, etc.)
