About the Opportunity This is an open position with FirstEnergy Service Company, a subsidiary of FirstEnergy Corp.[SC00] The Application Configuration Analyst is critical to the successful use of the technology and software systems used by FirstEnergy. Their role is critical because they know how to configure, fully utilize and secure applications. The configuration analyst also knows how the systems interface with other applications. In addition, they provide operational support understanding how to keep the system up and running. They have a passion for technology and love the challenge of digging in to find out how systems work and troubleshooting issues. The Application Configuration Analyst also learns the complex business processes of the systems they support. They have great communication skills allowing collaboration between IT and the business unit utilizing the application. About the intern opportunities for the IT Application Configuration Analysts There are multiple teams looking for IT Application Configuration Analysts Job duties and responsibilities vary by team. The following are some examples: -Supporting the application architecture -Ensuring that the application server processes continue to run and operate in the most efficient manner possible -Properly control and maintain security of the application according to FE standards -Perform software installation and patching, as needed, based on application roadmaps and issue resolution -Collaborate with software vendors on issue identification/resolution, installation, and patching -Identify opportunities to automate processes required to maintain platform performance and availability -Develop and enhance scripts to support production processes and operations -Troubleshoot applications and systems for root-cause analysis -Supporting and improving business processes -Create and maintain system documentation and procedures to ensure governance and standards -Be an active participant in a collaborative work environment gathering requirements from business stakeholders for new development projects -Analyzing requirements, documentation, use cases and workflow -Consulting with business partners in order to refine requirements and explain tradeoffs between usability and performance -Assist in defect resolution during testing of applications -Provide insight into application data -Understand the structure and design of the applications database -Provide data analysis and reports based on the needs of the business users -As a FirstEnergy Intern you will also be expected to: -Fully participate in the FirstEnergy Co-Op/Intern program mandatory events -Utilize knowledge, skills and abilities to work on challenging assignments and contribute to FirstEnergys success -Gain understanding of the electric utility business and seize the opportunity to explore potential career paths at FirstEnergy -Engage in candidate self-assessments and use supervisory feedback to improve your performance -Develop career contacts and receive guidance from coaches and peers -Network with other students -Present to department members and leadership at the end of each session/rotation to highlight projects and contributions Requirements -Currently enrolled in a bachelors degree program at an accredited university/college with a major inComputer Science or technology equivalent degree. -Maintain a minimum cumulativeGPA of 3.0. -Must have the ability to work without sponsorship (now or in the future) -Ability to commit to a minimum of two intern sessions: Spring, Summer or Fall -Must be willing to relocate to / reside near the job location for the duration of the assignment (some candidates may be eligible for a living stipend) -Successful completion of basic computer science coursework Preferred Skills/Experience -Knowledge of database architecture and design -Experience with relational databases, including reading and revising data through software applications -Basic understanding of, or experience with, Structured Query Language (SQL) -Familiarity with server administration and support -Working knowledge of one or more programming languages -Strong analytical skills to resolve problems and think creatively -Strong communication skills and able to work with minimal supervision -Willingness to undertake assignments involving unfamiliar subjects -Highly motivated to work independently and productively, with an aptitude to learn quickly -Organizational skills to prioritize and plan work, multi-task and meet schedules. -Ability to work on a team in a virtual environment with remote colleagues utilizing virtual technologies. -Proven team player, contributes to team goals, encourages and supports team members Benefits, Compensation & Workforce Diversity At FirstEnergy, employees are key to our success.
