    Fractional Corporate Controller: Multi-unit Retail

    • Length of Assignment: 60-90 days, possible full time appointment
    • Rate of pay: $75-$100 per hour depending on experience and finalized scope
    • W-2 and 1099 options available depending on scope and schedule

    An established Oakland-based health products business with retail divisions operating across the Bay Area is seeking a full-time Controller to manage a multi-entity accounting operation. The Controller is responsible for overseeing all financial operations including AP, AR, payroll, GL accounting and cash management. The role reports to the COO and has daily contact with the CEO. A part-time bookkeeper assists with payables and bank reconciliations. Limited support is provided by a full-time HR Manager as store managers. Industry-specialist CPAs perform a quarterly review of financials for tax and GL integrity. We are a state licensed business that reports to multiple agencies on monthly cycles and has strict compliance obligations. Many reports and filings require the download and integration of data from multiple systems. Accordingly, activity in our finance department is non-stop and requires a skilled financial controller to successfully meet the requirements of a transactional-intense growing business.

    • Google Sheets & Microsoft Excel expertise

    • Quickbooks Enterprise
    • Sales and excise tax filing and reconciliation

    Ideal candidate profile:

    • Expert in complex bank reconciliations
    • Expert in preparation of work papers for state and federal taxes and liaison with outside CPA
    • Expert in intercompany transaction reconciliations
    • Expert in extracting information from external platforms including POS, payroll, time & attendance, inventory, merchandise return tracking, CRMSubstantial experience in financial projections, cashflow and breakeven analysis
    • Advanced written and verbal communication skills
    • Candidates with experience in multi-unit retail, hospitality or real estate finance will receive priority consideration

    Responsibilities :

    • Oversee weekly AP and bi-weekly payroll
    • Oversee the production and integrity of financial statements
    • Develop and implement financial policies and procedures
    • Manage the budgeting process and provide regular updates to management
    • Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and laws
    • Audit cash activities including retail cash logs, bank deposits, credit card transactions and vendor discounts
    • Participate in the forecasting and planning process
