Kupuna Wellness Center Instructor Job Title KWC InstructorPart timeLocation Pohulani Elderly Apartments (Honolulu)POSITION OVERVIEW: The Kupuna Wellness Center Instructor position supports the development and implementation of the short and long-range plans to ensure the goals, objectives, and requirements of Lanakila Pacific and our funders are met. This position is responsible for the daily operation of a Kupuna Wellness Center, providing program instruction, and planning and facilitating activities for program participants which are inline with Lanakila Pacifics values and program standards. KEY SUPPORT RESPONSIBILITIES:Kupuna Wellness Center Instructor Position Specific Duties:Responsible for the day to day operation of the Kupuna Wellness Center including overseeing approved volunteers, program participants, and guests. Schedule, coordinate, and conduct appropriate social, recreational, educational, and physical activities to ensure the Nutrition Education and Recreation goals are met. Activities to include community guest speakers, service projects, field trips, health and public awareness. Activities must consider the interests and abilities of the participants and support their cognitive, physical and social wellbeing in a healthful and respectful environment.Strategizes, designs, coordinates, and conducts outreach activities for the purpose of: 1) educating the community about Lanakila Pacific/Lanakila Meals on Wheels programs and services, 2) assisting individuals in meeting eligibility requirements and receiving services. Outreach activities must meet program and contract goals/outcomes. Stays up-to-date on and implements best practices and methodologies related to communicating and connecting with the target audience.Seek out potential participants, caregivers, service providers, and supporters with the purpose of assisting eligible participants, increasing program participation, and ensuring the program has the support needed for efficient operations. Develop and maintain positive rapport with program participants and volunteers. Screen and assess potential participants to determine preliminary program eligibility. Complete intakes, assessments, reassessments, applications, and other documents as needed to assist participants in becoming eligible and applying to receive program services. Make recommendations and assist with referrals to other appropriate services as needed. Communicate to applicants and/or their designated representatives regarding eligibility status and make recommendations and assist with referrals to other services if ineligible for program. Follow up with active participants periodically to support participants maintaining services and assess if needs have changed.Accurate and timely completion of program reports including outreach, meal orders, program services, attendance, and food distribution (or waste). Write daily summaries, ensure accuracy of project income, and incident/accident reports.Effectively communicate with LMOW staff and funding sources, including any updates or changes in participant eligibility status, emergency requests, or other service issues.KEY SELECTION CRITERIA: Excellent planning, organizing, and training ability.Experience in public speaking.Strong connections to the community.Demonstrated awareness of cultural sensitivity and adapting to the situation/audience.Valid Driver's License, access to an insured vehicle and able to meet Lanakila's policies and expectations for safe drivers.Current TB Clearance (valid within one year).Pass criminal background checks.Pass pre-employment/post-employment checks.EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:Bachelors degree from an accredited institution in social work, psychology, education, Human Resources, Marketing, or related field preferred. High School Diploma plus years of experience in a community-based program or related field may qualify to be substituted on a year-to-year basis for the education requirement.One year of work experience in a human services program or direct customer service, serving the elderly and/or disabled preferred.Experience with program planning and coordination. Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid Certification required. OTHER INFORMATION: Working Conditions/Hours: Program Hours: 3 hours per day, Monday through Friday, scheduled between 8:30 am and 12:00 pm, other days/time for program administration and outreach. Indoors, office setting; outdoors, in various community settings; will travel for program field trips, other program sites, meetings, outreach, etc. Occasionally required to work outside of program hours, including on Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays.
