Location - Pueblo of Sandia - Job Code - 94901 - Shift - Day - Pay Rate - $9.42 -$11.78/hourly - Category - Lands - Employment Status - Part-Time - Incentive - GIS STUDENT INTERN - Description: - Position Summary - Reports to the GIS Manager, provides technical and administrative support activities involving the collection, analysis, and reporting of geographic information as related to environmental and other tribal issues - Supervision Exercised - Supervised by the GIS Manager - Major Duties and Responsibilities - Collects Global Positioning System (GPS) data in the field for support of air, soil, and water sampling and monitoring. - Researches, collects, and analyzes data from a variety of sources including tribal, federal, state, and local governments, community organizations, and other agencies for use in the GIS. - Maintains active enrollment in post-high school coursework related to this internship. - Assists GIS Specialist and GIS Manager in the generation of maps and other department and tribal reports. - Assists GIS Specialist and GIS Manager in presenting workshops, meetings, and seminars designed to educate community members on GIS, environmental and other issues, problems, and solutions. - Assists other environment staff with field sampling. - Along with the GIS Specialist and GIS Manager, meets and confers with tribal, federal, state, and local officials regarding GIS and environmental issues. - Provides administrative support to other environment staff as assigned. - Performs additional duties and responsibilities as necessary or assigned - Secondary Duties and Responsibilities - - Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Ability to work in a team environment, independently, and with minimal supervision. - Ability to meet office deadlines. - Ability to deal effectively with the public. - Ability to travel and meet physical requirements. - Ability to learn geographic principles and apply them effectively to problem solving. - Ability to maintain an open mind, positive attitude, and work efficiently. - Ability to read and write English and follow oral instructions. - Knowledge of Microsoft Word 2010 (or higher) desirable. - Knowledge of Microsoft Excel 2010 (or higher) desirable. - Knowledge of computer systems desirable. - Knowledge of environmental issues and problems desirable. - Knowledge of GIS, GPS, and geographic processes desirable - Requirements: - Minimum Qualifications, Education and Experience - Required: - Must be a high school senior planning to attend, or a student enrolled in a post-high school academic or vocational institution. - Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted New Mexico Drivers License. - Licensing Status - Must be able to successfully pass a stringent background investigation. - Will require a post-offer, pre-employment and random drug screening. - Working Conditions - Work may be performed outdoors and is subject to seasonal extremes and inclement weather. - May be subject to odors, dusts, fumes, and gases. - Subject to standard office working noise levels while outdoor levels may be much higher. - Subject to hazards such as carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis, possible damage to eyesight due to exposure to computer screens, and dangers associated with working outdoors around heavy machinery. - Duties require normal dexterity while sitting and standingalso involved are walking, kneeling, climbing, crawling, crouching, and the ability to assume prone positions. - Specific required movements include the following: (25 lbs.
