Job Description
Summary Reporting to the Program Director, the Community Outreach Liaison coordinates with various outreach and social service providers and local elected officials within Council District, and liaises with residents, with the goal of enhancing lines of communication and building community relationships. Responsibilities Program/Facilities * Maintains a calendar of outreach activities, including community events, workshops, appearances, and other communication opportunities. * Prepares an annual budget for community outreach activities. * Nurtures new and old relationships with collaborative partners. * Schedules regular outreach exhibitions in the community and educates employees on community responsibility. * Assists in the organization of special events, including donor/volunteer appreciation events and other initiatives. * Assists with in-house and remote events. * Communicates with district office staff and works with related committee staff. * Develops and manages the communication process and mechanisms for community members to have direct access to receive and share information with participating outreach and social service providers. * Liaises between constituents, providers on the concerns of an area or segment of the population and suggests proactive courses of action relating to solving problems related to them. * Distributes information with the community about relevant local events and activities, including opportunities for the community to participate in and volunteer for organizations that provide outreach and/or social services, as provided to the Community Outreach Liaison by the service providers. * Convenes and facilitates committees and/or workshops for consumers on special topics, per interests shown by community stakeholders. * Conducts outreach to community stakeholders for advocacy events and/or meetings being hosted by the organization and relevant campaigns. Administrative * Maintains and submits all necessary documentation, minutes, and reports accurately in a timely manner and as required by Urban Pathways. * Prepares weekly reports on all activities, database entry and other administrative tasks, as necessary. * Tracks attendance at meetings, trainings, and events. Community Relations * Attends community meetings, including but not limited to those of community boards, block associations, community advisory councils, and precinct community council meetings. * Develops and maintains ongoing relationships with outreach providers, social service provider leaders, members, and consumers. Communication * Communicates verbally and in writing in a professional manner at all times. * Facilitates/attends staff meetings, training, and supervisory sessions, as required. * Responds to all communications including telephone, email and other oral and written inquiries in a timely manner. Performs all other duties as assigned and as required. Qualifications Education and Experience * Bachelor's Degree is preferred, but not required. * 3-5 years within non-profit outreach activities preferred. * Strong knowledge of social media and other basic marketing platforms. * Detail-orientated with the ability to manage multiple projects at a time. * Excellent organizational and public speaking skills. * Knowledge of New York City and its communities helpful. * Knowledge of policy issues in New York City's human services field, as well as a firm understanding of City State and Federal government and legislative processes preferred. * Experience with homeless, mentally ill and substance abuse populations preferred. Skills * Outstanding written communication and presentation skills. * Creative and analytical thinking. * Ability to work independently and take initiative in a fast-paced environment. * Dependability and attention to detail. * Strong computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office. * Experience with AWARDS preferred. Other * Required to work a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays and evenings. * Valid driver's license with clean driving record a plus. Physical Capabilities * All programs require field work, home visits, client escorts, and use of public transportation.
