This exciting position reports to the Director of Public Relations and Media Relations in the Brand Publicity department. The Public Relations Specialist contributes to the overall communications strategy for Wyndham Destinations, in support of the companys business initiatives across its corporate and consumer brands. The role supports companywide initiatives, and the implementation of external communications objectives for Wyndham Destinations and its brand portfolio. The Public Relations Specialist will be responsible for coordinating and implementing public relations and communications activities; managing the development, approval and distribution process for press releases and other materials; monitoring the media; and tracking and measuring results. The Public Relations Specialist will also assist in the development of various communications vehicles for internal constituents such as business development, operations and marketing. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: * Public Relations * Contribute to media relations campaigns in an effort to generate awareness for the companys brands in local, regional and national consumer and trade publications, as well as through social media, online and broadcast media outlets. * Assist in the planning of press briefings, photo shoots, media tours, press trips and all other initiatives and events related to public relations. * Work with subject matter experts to draft, edit and distribute press releases that support the companys business strategies. * Manage the internal review and approval process, including obtaining senior management and legal approval for all communications and distribute releases to media and add to company channels (website, etc.). * Monitor media inbox and hotline for proactive press opportunities. Completes administrative tasks in support of PR projects to support planning, budgeting, invoice payment and acquisition of materials or services. * Brand Publicity Resource Management * Utilize online public relations software programs to regularly update and maintain media contact lists, editorial calendars, placement reports and other public relations databases. * Maintain media centers and update copy to ensure consistent, timely and strategic messaging throughout various websites. * Monitor the media daily for brand mentions and stories related to timeshare, vacation exchange, vacation rentals and relevant topics for placement into weekly report and daily clipping for company files. * Compile activity reports, press materials and relevant work to present at meeting with senior leadership and regional representatives. * Project Management * Provides essential support to Director, Corporate Communications in fulfilling comprehensive responsibilities related to the management of projects under the leadership of the Chief Brand Officer, Vice President Corporate Communications, and Senior Director Brand Publicity. * Develops messaging, creates reports and presentations, and maintains meticulous project tracking to ensure timely fulfillment of responsibilities and deliverables. * Strategic Focus * Works with Wyndham Destinations colleagues and various business partners to support projects and initiatives pursuant to the Companys strategic priorities and builds relationships across the business. * Creates and maintains reports and analytics on department activities for Wyndham Destinations, the SLT and other leaders. * Communications Resource Management * Collaboration with Corporate Communications to provide internal message development for targeted communications supporting key programs and initiatives. * Provides specialized support to small group of G & A business partners to ensure responsive, dedicated delivery of communications assignments. * Draft, support collaborative review/approval, and deploy strategic internal communications for various initiatives, announcements and programs, and execute tactics for delivering key messages and information to internal audiences. Qualifications Education * Bachelors degree in related field. Knowledge and skills * Excellent writing and editing skills required; Understanding of the Associated Press (AP) writing style. * Superb communications skills and talent to tailor messages to specific constituencies * Ability to respond to rapidly changing conditions with agility and imagination, capitalizing on opportunities * Detail-oriented: while seeing the big picture is important, it is also necessary to have a solid grasp of the tactical side of the job responsibilities in order to effectively implement a strong corporate communications plan. * Project Management: able to manage multiple projects, processes and partnerships successfully in a deadline-driven environment. * Flexibility: being adaptable and open to a culture of change, this position must be able to alter strategies based on the needs of the business. * Bachelors degree in Communications, English, Journalism or related field required. * Public relations or communications experience within an agency or corporate environment preferred. * Strong organizational skills to effectively manage multiple projects from inception to completion, adhering to deadlines, within budget and with high quality. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to obtain and present information in a clear, concise and compelling manner. * The ability to confidently and successfully pitch story ideas to media outlets that communicate the companys key messages and support our business objectives. * Ability to work independently as well as with other individuals at all levels across multiple functions. * Understanding of various social media channels. Technical Skills * Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of programs. * Knowledge of PR platforms (Cision, Meltwater, PR Newswire, etc.) preferred. Job experience * 2-5 years of related communications experience; communications background and/or travel and hospitality services industry experience desirable.
