Numismatic Apprenticeship Program Job Locations US-OK-Oklahoma City Job ID 2018-1286 Category Merchandising Type Regular Full-Time About The Role This part time program is designed for full time APMEX employees to discover if they have the desire, skills and ambition to pursue a career in numismatics or product management. In this program, you will learn about the history of US coins and currency, explore some of the most popular coin series collected, how to grade these popular items, determine the value of items we sell and provide an introduction to product management. Over a 10-11 week program you will be immersed in the world of numismatics, taught how to grade coins and be given periodic tests to see how you are progressing. Each week you will spend 2-4 hours with Scott Thomas, Mike Garofalo or other experts and learn first-hand from them the skills you need to graduate and become a full-time apprentice working your way to become a Jr. Numismatist or possibly a Jr. Product Manager over time. Halfway through the program, there will be a mid-term exam where successful candidates will move on to the next phase of the program. At the conclusion of the program, those who graduate will be offered a numismatic apprenticeship position where they can begin their journey to become a Jr. Numismatist or possibly a Jr. Product Manager. A day in the life of the Numismatic Apprenticeship Program: Participate in weekly educational and teaching classes Studying grading books to understand the basic principles of grading coins Learn the grading of popular coin series such as silver dollars, Barber coinage, Buffalo nickels, Lincoln cents and US Double Eagles Review large quantities of numismatic coins and sort by date, mint, grade, and variety Learn how we manage products on our website After hours unpaid study assignments will be required Passing written skill tests Qualifications Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required Experience: One (1) year of experience at APMEX with performance evaluations rating of Meets Expectations or better. Knowledge of US and World coins preferred but not required. Correctable 20/20 vision. Computer Skills: Basic skills using Microsoft Office Suite.
