  • Responsibilities

    Globe Life is hiring a full-time attorney in the Company’s in-house legal department. This attorney will primarily be responsible for providing legal counsel to the Company’s Marketing Department and to Agency Administrative Departments at the Company’s subsidiaries. The position will have a hybrid remote / in-office schedule.  Our offices are located in McKinney, Texas.

    • This role will be the Company’s lead expert on legal issues related to marketing, advertising, and social media, and will be responsible for the legal review of the Company’s advertisements and campaigns, including all publications and online content
    • Provide legal support and advice on a broad array of marketing initiatives and advertising-related activities in the United States, Canada, and New Zealand
    • Advance-review all advertisements involving the Company and its subsidiaries to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations
    • Advance-review all Company internal communications to issue-spot for potential legal concerns
    • Provide legal counsel for initiatives including new advertising campaigns, contests and sweepstakes, sports-marketing partnerships, and partnerships with lead generation companies
    • Review and provide legal advice on programs involving the Company’s independent contractors from time to time
    • Serve as a critical business partner to enable growth across the Company’s subsidiaries
    • Coordinate closely with the Compliance department to ensure appropriate filing of advertisements with state regulators as required
    • Demonstrate or develop subject matter expertise in all areas of advertising law and understand variances in legal and regulatory standards across the jurisdictions in which the Company’s subsidiaries do business
    • Develop relationships with key personnel and department heads across the Company’s subsidiaries
    • Perform other tasks and projects in the legal department as assigned
    • From time to time may be asked to assist other attorneys with, or be responsible for, matters unrelated to marketing or advertising, including contract review, insurance claim review, legal research, or other special projects

    • Impeccable grammar, proof-reading, and attention to detail are required

    • Excellent time management skills are essential for success in this position. Ability to meet critical deadlines across multiple active workflows is required. Sense of urgency and responsiveness are required.

    • Strong interpersonal skills, tact, diplomacy, and a high level of professionalism are required

    • Must be a strong communicator, both verbally and in writing

    • Must possess strong analytical skills and the ability to issue-spot for areas of legal concern

    • Ability to work well independently and within a team setting

    • Must possess comprehensive understanding of attorney/client privilege  

    • Willingness to learn the legal and regulatory framework of the insurance industry is required (if not already familiar)

    • Must receive direction well in a fast-paced environment

    • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

    • Proficient or ability and willingness to become proficient in proof review software such as Workfront

    • Ability and willingness to learn and become proficient in other software tools, as required

    • Ability to read and write

    • Maintain compliance with Legal Rules of Professional Responsibility

    • Ability to read and write in Spanish is not required, but would be a plus

    Required Experience

    • Juris Doctor is required. Must be licensed to practice law in Texas, Oklahoma, or state of residence if remote.
    • Prior legal experience in the marketing and advertising space is desired
    • Prior in-house legal department experience is not required, but would be a plus
