    Atlanta Streetcar Operator Location: City Of Atlanta Divisions: DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS Description The salary range for this position is $33,000 - 41,300 General Description and Classification Standards This rewarding position will suit a motivated and well-presented person with fantastic customer service skills who would enjoy driving (operating) the Atlanta streetcars and directly interacting with its customers of the new City of Atlanta Streetcar System. The role will typically suit someone with a good driving record who will receive extensive training in the safe and efficient operation of Siemen S70 streetcars. Previous experience in the driving of vehicles of a like transit mode, such as a streetcar, bus, LRV or trolley style streetcar is preferred. Exemplary customer services skills are required. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (These duties are not be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive, and do not include marginal functions of the position that are incidental to the performance of the essential job functions.) Operates a streetcar to transport passengers safely, governed by the Atlanta Streetcar Management team, Superintendent of Operations, Supervisors, Atlanta Streetcar operating rules and Standard Operating Procedures, Bulletins, General Orders, Schedules, Traffic Signals, Traffic Laws, Radio/Telephone Communications and other documentation as necessary, systems or markings as instructed. Maintains complete up to date knowledge of Rail Operations Rule Book and all safety rules and procedures. Performs pre-pull-out inspection of train and track, according to standard operating procedures and instruction for safety reasons, and reports any operational problems as instructed. Receives and transmits two-way radio messages to report pull-out and track changes and request clearance for movement. Takes temporary charge during emergencies, reports the condition; protects and calms passengers, and uses emergency equipment as necessary. Ensures high levels of customer service and professional courtesy to all streetcar customers (i.e. those riding or interacting with streetcar vehicles or infrastructure). Wears uniform and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as applicable to the position. Writes reports affidavits, questionnaires and complete forms as needed and instructed. Acts as a customer service representative and ticket/fare inspector as required and instructed Cleaning duties as required and instructed. Trains other operators for on the job training as instructed. Participates fully in all incident investigations as required and instructed. Other duties as assigned SELECTION CRITERIA Demonstrated ability to learn to operate the Atlanta Streetcar and all related equipment in a safe and efficient manner. Satisfactorily complete Atlanta Streetcars Operator Training Program for Certification. Ability to learn and comply with streetcar operations rules and procedures, schedule, signals, and communication equipment. Ability to communicated and convey information verbally in a clear manner, and to understand oral and written instructions. Well groomed and maintain a high level of personal presentation. Displaying good people skills and a pleasant disposition. Ability to report for assigned scheduled hours as required. Ability to provide exceptional customer service to all clientele and passengers as required. SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES The Streetcar operator will be expected to take every reasonable precaution, given the circumstances, to ensure the protection of other employees, contractors, volunteers, patrons and members of the public. The Streetcar operator will be responsible for identifying and informing supervisors and other personnel of hazards in the workplace. Under the leadership of the Atlanta Streetcar Management Team, Manager of Streetcar Services and Superintendent of Operations, the Streetcar operator will be responsible for ensuring a safe work environment, following all safety policies and procedures and reporting all health and safety concerns in a timely manner. ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES Knowledge of: State and local traffic laws, ordinances and regulations involved in the operations of streetcars. Rail operations safety rules and regulations. Ability to: Lift up to 35 pounds. Operate S70 Streetcar vehicles and equipment safely and efficiently. Operate technical equipment. Memorize signs, signals and terminology used for rail transit. Work independently in a highly timed-structured environment. Exercise sound judgment in stressful situations. Understand and follow detailed oral and written instructions. Communicate courteously and effectively with people. Recognize and respond appropriately to potential hazards on train, track or stops. Recognize and correct/report problems with equipment. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High school diploma or GED, along with any relevant operations or customer service training and certification. Valid State of Georgia Class B CDL with P endorsement Current Department of Transportation (DOT) medical card No more than three moving violations in the past three years Must pass physical examination and FTA pre-employment drug screen required for job Stable work record Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Minimum high school diploma or GED, along with any relevant operations or customer service training and certification. 3 years' of experience in the operation of light to heavy-sized commercial vehicles; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze and interpret commonly used Atlanta Streetcar documentation, covering operational instructions. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to immediate supervisors or management. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts, such as addition, subtraction and division. REASONING ABILITY Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of operational instructions and address common customer requests and issues.
