    Electrician Assistant Location: City Of Atlanta Divisions: DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN RESOURCES Description Salary Range: $28,500 - $35,600 Close Date: Open Until Filled -- General Job Description The Electrician Assistant position provides assistance to a more experienced worker performing maintenance, installations, repair and troubleshooting work involved with electrical systems that are part of traffic signals and street lights. Work involves technical application of electrical principles of circuits, electrical current and voltage. Individuals must already possess the basic knowledge of the work and the required motor skills and physical capabilities to carry out basic tasks involved in electrical work. Employee routinely uses tools appropriate to test electric measures. Working Conditions Employee works under direct supervision of leading technicians and follows standard procedures and oral or written instructions to accomplish assigned tasks. Requirements include basic knowledge and some experience working with electricity under the supervision of a more experienced worker Essential Duties & Responsibilities The following responsibilities are typical but not exclusive for this job: Assist in the maintenance of streetlights and traffic signals; basic troubleshooting of electric circuits to identify cause of failure in order to perform basic repairs as needed. Assist in maintenance, repair and installation of lighting fixtures, electrical panels, outlets and wiring. Operates power hand tools and other specialized electrical equipment. Employee should be able to inspect and select materials and supplies from stockroom; call vendors for parts and supplies, and recommend purchases if necessary. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities . Knowledge of general electrical theory and methods, materials, tools, equipment and systems used in the electrical trade; ideally, the candidate should have knowledge of applicable state and federal codes and regulations pertaining to electrical work. Knowledge of safety precautions to be observed in the maintenance and installation of electric equipment. Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience High school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED). 6 months' of related experience in a commercial, industrial, or facilities operations setting. Any combination of education and experience may be considered. Preferred Education & Experience Completion of Technical or Vocational course of study in Electricity and/or Welding or similar area 1 year of related experience in a commercial, industrial, or facilities operations setting. Essential Capabilities and Work Environment Required physical, lifting, and sensory capabilities are requirements to perform the job successfully.
