The successful candidate in this position will work on the maintenance and installation of pipes, valves, services, and hydrants; in the water distribution and sewer collection systems. The job duties include: pavement breaking, digging, tamping, and operating a water and sewer tapping machine, concrete saw, small hand tools, jackhammers and shovels. The physical duties include: heavy lifting, stooping, standing, bending, and walking for extended periods of time; as well as working in adverse weather conditions. The employee in this position will also work in trenches five feet and deeper with proper shoring equipment. The selected applicant must follow all city of Greensboro safety and OSHA guidelines including work zone safety; effectively communicate in written form; be able to follow written and verbal directions; maintain a reliable means of contact (i.e. home or cellular phone) ; serve on an "on-call" rotation schedule; and be available to work overtime as needed.
