As a Conflicts Manager at Latham, you will be responsible for ensuring efficiency in the daily operations of the conflicts checking for the United States and Asia, liaising with attorneys in the region regarding the conflicts process, being the primary point person for escalation of conflicts issues for attorneys during West Coast US business hours, and hiring, training, and managing the Conflicts teams located in the US West Coast and Asia.

     

    • Working closely with attorneys and the rest of the Conflicts department to ensure the provision of timely and effective conflicts services
    • Serving as primary point of contact for the Conflicts Department for attorneys and staff during U.S. West Coast business hours, assisting with solving problems, providing updates, triaging requests, and ensuring overall efficient services
    • Supervising the GSO- and Asia-based conflicts staff team
    • Assisting with streamlining and management of complex and/or urgent conflict check requests
    • Creating and implementing a relevant strategic hiring plan or the GSO and Asia in conjunction with the Deputy General Counsel, Director team, Human Resources, and others and leads the recruitment and hiring efforts for that plan
    • Liaising with the Conflicts Manager- Laterals, Recruiting, and Human Resources to ensure compliance with conflicts policies, as well as coordination on lateral hire checks, particularly for checks for the U.S. West Coast, Houston, and Asia
    • in the orientation and training program for new staff members and acts as the lead for orientation and training for conflicts staff in the Latham GSO and Asian offices
    • Assuming a lead role in outreach on both general conflicts issues, new policies and/or procedures, problem solving, complaint resolution, and special projects
    • Assisting Supervisors and Directors with workflow and helping ensure that all tasks and duties are completed within the requested period and adhere to the firm’s set guidelines and policies
    • Assisting with complex/high-level conflict checks as needed to meet deadlines and attorney expectations
    • Working collaboratively with other Supervisors and Managers in the Department to ensure successful follow-the-sun coverage for Conflicts issues, awareness of high priority issues, concerns or issues with attorneys, as well as a unified approach to long-term projects
    • Working with attorneys and staff of the firm on ad-hoc special projects that support the development of the Conflicts Department and Conflicts team
    • Promoting effective work practices, working as a team member, and showing respect for co-workers

     

    As a Conflicts Manager, you will be expected to apply your organizational and communication skills while displaying a positive, high-energy attitude. The successful Conflicts Manager must have well-developed and professional interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interface with attorneys, management, support staff, and outside contacts. The ability to work collaboratively with attorneys in a high-paced environment to identify and resolve issues while providing excellent customer service is desired. The ideal candidate must be able to use independent judgement and discretion when making decisions, as well as display excellent leadership skills necessary for effective management. A Bachelor’s degree is preferred. A minimum of seven (7) years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of Bachelor’s degree. A minimum of six (6) years work experience, including work directly with attorneys/partners, at a major international law firm is required, as well as a minimum of four (4) years conflicts experience.     Knowledge of software based engineering processes

    Cameo and/or Magic Draw experience preferred

    C/C++/Java experience preferred

    Familiarity with Atlassian Tool Suite preferred

    Knowledge of software version control (CVN, GIT, etc.) preferred

    Ability to understand engineering drawings/schematics

    Works well both independently and as part of a team

    Demonstrated problem solving ability

    25% travel
