The Junior Electronic / Mechanical Technician supports the repair, calibration, and testing of industrial electronic and electro-mechanical equipment under the guidance of senior technicians and specialists. This role focuses on developing technical skills while ensuring repaired units meet company quality and performance standards. The Junior Technician assists with diagnosing, repairing, and validating equipment such as PLCs, drives, industrial PCBs, timers, counters, monitors, servo motors, and temperature/process control devices. Responsibilities include basic troubleshooting, component replacement, soldering, and functional testing using standard diagnostic tools and procedures. This position requires foundational knowledge of electronics or electro-mechanical systems, soldering skills, and the ability to follow documented repair processes. The Junior Technician is responsible for accurately documenting repairs and test results in company IT systems and maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform bench-level electronic and electro-mechanical repairs using standard troubleshooting, soldering, and diagnostic techniques
• Isolate failures at the component level on industrial control equipment
• Repair, calibrate, program, and functionally test industrial electronics including PLCs, drives, industrial PCBs, timers, counters, monitors, and temperature/process controls
• Utilize test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, function generators, and test fixtures
• Perform power-up, diagnostic, and functional testing to ensure quality and reliability
• Inspect, clean, and verify part numbers on all units processed
• Order replacement parts as required and ensure correct components are used
• Accurately document repair actions, parts used, troubleshooting steps, and test results in IT systems
• Process pre-evaluation units to “RTS” (Ready to Sell) condition
• Ensure proper handling, labeling, and storage of units throughout the repair process
• Support and follow established quality methods, processes, and procedures
• Share best practices, technical knowledge, and lessons learned with the team
• Manage time effectively and prioritize workload to meet expectations
• Properly use and maintain shop assets, tools, and test fixtures; provide personal hand and power tools
• Collaborate effectively in a team environment
• Support development of new capabilities including servo and robotics when applicable
Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED required
• Technical certificate or Associate degree in Electronics, Mechatronics, Industrial Technology, or related field preferred
• Internship, trade school experience, or military technical training is a plus
• Understanding of the industrial controls repair cycle
• Strong technical aptitude with willingness to learn
• Driven individual and team player
• Required to bring personal tools as specified by hiring manager
Knowledge & Skills Required
• Basic understanding of electronic components (resistors, capacitors, diodes, transistors, ICs)
• Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals
• Fundamental soldering and de‑soldering skills
• Familiarity with diagnostic tools (multimeters, power supplies, oscilloscopes)
• Basic mechanical aptitude and safe use of hand tools
• Understanding of PLCs, drives, or industrial controls a plus
• Strong computer proficiency
• Ability to multi‑task and work at a fast pace

Education & Experience
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• 0–2 years of experience in electronics repair, electro-mechanical assembly, or industrial maintenance preferred
• Technical certificate or Associate degree preferred
Physical Demands
• Occasional reaching overhead, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling
• Frequent walking
• Continuous standing and repetitive hand motion
• Lifting requirements: occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, frequent lifting up to 25 pounds, continuous lifting up to 10 pounds
