THE ROLE Recologys 12-Week Summer Internship program will take you outside of the classroom and provide you with hands-on professional experience in the resource recovery industry. Our internships are focused in Operations specifically, Collections, Organics, Processing, and Maintenance. We are looking for interns who are curious and passionate about helping solve the challenges of resource recovery in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment. Recologys summer internship offers the opportunity to: Work side-by-side with top talent and leaders in our Operations Departments. Lead a major initiative with guidance from Recology operations professionals to ensure the successful completion of the project and present the outcome of your project to leadership. Network with professionals who share your interests. Work on group projects with fellow interns including the Recology Innovation Challenge and producing a video to be seen by all Recology employees. OPERATIONS INTERNSHIP Areas of Focus Operations - Organics The organics group processes material that produce nutrient-rich compost, soil amendments and landscaping products. The feedstock includes food scraps and yard trimmings that are otherwise destined for landfill. Recology Organics produces soil amendments that are used to aid in sustainable farming, as well as natural bark and decorative mulch products that are used for various home and garden landscaping projects. Operations - Collections The collections group supports a variety of collection services for organics, recyclables, and municipal solid waste materials. Operations works to ensure efficiency and quality of service to the residential, multi-family, and commercial customers we serve. Operations Processing The processing group focuses on recovering recyclables, such as paper and plastic, and reducing landfill-bound materials. By seeking out and utilizing new technology systems to sort and extract materials, and provide recycled raw materials to manufacturers. Take a simple plastic bottle, for example. These plastics can be recycled through the collection and recovery systems at Recology, and made into new products, like jackets made from these recycled plastic bottles. Operations Maintenance The maintenance group repairs and maintains our collection vehicles, landfill equipment, and processing equipment in top notch condition so our drivers, material handlers, sorters and equipment operators are able to service our customers and communities safely. The Maintenance team also oversees the preventative maintenance program in accordance with our company policies, procedures and applicable laws. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, AND ARE NOT LIMITED TO: Performs assigned tasks in various functional areas to learn about the industry and business operations. Analyzes data and/or potential issues and makes recommendations for solutions. Contributes to departmental goals and identifies improvement growth opportunities while participating in activities in the operations function. Performs analysis of data, information and research. Completes special projects. Researches, collects and analyzes information. Prepares and presents a final presentation to local management on project results/findings. QUALIFICATIONS Currently in senior year of undergraduate coursework or have recently graduated. Applications from graduate students are also encouraged. Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or greater. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to work with multiple departments to help achieve goals and objectives. An interest in a career within the resource recovery/environmental services industry. Ability to accept delegated responsibilities and follow through to completion. IMPORTANT DETAILS All Recology internship positions are full-time (40 hours per week), paid positions . We will have two (2) start dates, and two end dates. Intern candidates must be able to commit to one of the start dates and complete a continuous 12-week internship.
